... and useful as unlike the built-in menu item it allows you to change status without actually having the main Proteus app running. However, there's still a few bugs here and there - the main one being that some contacts do not appear correctly in the contact list - the icon is there, but no name.
Still real handy, though.

It's just great...

...to be able to quit Proteus to save resources and desktop space! When a msg comes in, Proteus automically launches. Same when you want to msg a contact. It's just a much more compact way to interact with the imservices daemon without having Proteus open all the time.
I don't seem to have the problems others have described. The only thing what needs some work seems to be with a multi-contact. I have 1 multi-contact (with an MSN ID and a Yahoo ID) which shows it's Yahoo ID in the contacts submenu, even when only the MSN ID of that particular contact is online...
BTW, to quit ProteusMenu: just command-drag it from the menubar... Poof, it's gone... Until the next reboot. If you want to totally remove it and never show up again, just remove ProteusMenu.menu from /Library/Bundles and the other 3 files as explained in the accompanying readme.

Can't wait for the next release... no, really, I mean I *CAN'T* wait!!!
