Wow! I just took 6 shots of my kid at the zoo today, imported them into iPhoto and then wiped the Microdrive CF card. Then I ran Picture Rescue hoping to find those 6 photos. What I found is 64 photos all of which were intact except for one. These photos that were recovered were the 6 I just tok and several going back as far as 7 months! Needless to say, I am extremely happy with this app. It's much easier to use than PhotoRescue and performed extremely well! Nice job ProSoft! Now, please improve Data Recycler X and I'll be one extremely happy camper!
Elegant Program, Great Support

I am a working professional photographer, and am shooting all digital now. I cannot afford to loose any photos from a shoot. I needed a program to always have handy on my laptop in case of trouble with a flash card. It must work with RAW files as well as the more common formats. Since trouble like that will be rare, the program also has to be intuitive to use in a pinch. I found that Picture Rescue has a very friendly user interface to it, no manual needed, simple to use, it showed me all the thumbnails of images that it found (which in a formatted card was 100% recovery of all photos, RAW & Jpeg, plus older photos from months before!). Since I could see the thumbnails, I could easily choose which photos to recover, and which to ignore. It worked great with my Firewire Card Reader. I found the Support at Prosoft to be excellent also: As a backup for travel, I decided to try the Delkin Cardbus32 Adapter, which just came out with a workable driver for use on Macs. (It downloads almost as fast as Firewire 400) Picture Rescue did not recognize a CF Card mounted with that PC Card Adapter due to the way the Cardbus32 driver was written. I contacted Prosoft support about it, not thinking that I would really hear back from them, but they contacted me that same day to get information about the Cardbus32 Adapter, and the next day they provided me with a new version of Picture Rescue that would recognize the new adapter! I wish all software developers would respond with that kind of service.

Good to see folks promoting shareware and freeware and taking the time out to help others find what they need. It really is great to see that comraderie and support for each other. That said, I'd like to point out some of the differences between the two software titles so that a potential user can decide which one works better for them:
Picture Rescue: Supports JPG, TIFF and RAW image recovery.
E-Untrasher: Just JPG recovery
Picture Rescue: Supports Movie file recovery
E-Untrasher: none
Picture Rescue: Thumnail Preview of all pics
E-Untrasher: no thumbnail preview
Picture Rescue: Automatically recognizes and mounts the media
E-Untrasher: user must mount and select media
Picture Rescue: Flexibility of selecting which pics to recover
e-Untrasher: lack of thumbnails makes this difficult
Picture Rescue: toll free tech support
E-Untrasher: not sure, but most likely email only from german developer
Picture Rescue: Can mount and recover from a corrupt media card
E-Untrasher: Doesn't seem to--Only recovers deleted pics from a good card...
Also, take a look at the User Interfaces. Picture Rescue was designed specifically to run on a Mac-- Exif Untrasher looks to have been ported to work on a mac, but is not as user friendly (we'll let you decide).
We're also going to be adding a "secure delete" feature within the next month, that will allow the user to securely delete any sensitive pictures, making them impossible for someone to later find--

I use EXIF Untrasher which is very simple and works just fine.
Oh, and it's donationware. Pay what you think it's worth.

All these "overly, unrestrainedly joyfully fantastic" reviews below are being posted by the developer.
They probably finds it necessary to do so because their product is double the price of similar apps that work very well.
Prosoft...believe me, it is quite obvious when the developers are posting their own reviews, and it would probably be better to avoid doing so again so as not to make you seem like losers.

This product (demo) found more pictures than the other software I tried. I bought it for that reason alone.. I was happy that the product looked a heck of a lot better than the others too (probably because it's made for the Mac, not made for PC and ported to work on a Mac)--- Very easy to use and very fast recovery!
WOW--

I took over 100 pics with my camera this past week while travelling-- The card, for some reason, wouldn't show up in the camera anymore, nor in any number of readers... I flipped out, thinking I had lost all those pics.. I found Picture Rescue mentioned when I happened to be reading MacNN.com and downloaded the demo. I was obviously psyched when Picture Rescue showed me thumbnails of all my pics (a few pics were corrupted by the card for whatever reason, but 98% of them were fine)-- I bought the product and cannot be happier!
The highest level of praise

I returned from a trip overseas with 500 once-in-a-lifetime photos saved on a flaschard that went corrupt on me. This software retreived the phots and probably saved my marriage as a result. It was easy and the rescue of the photos was magical! If you have ever been through the experience of potentially losing irreplacable photos, you will appreciate the need for this software. But Picture Rescue. It works.!
Thanks!
