Magazine Website Design Template PXL-04-01-02 Usage TipEasy to Edit - Version: 1.0, 7/14/2004 02:05PM PST

Because of the shown template I bought an other one from the "pixel-storefront". Finally I found templates which are conceptual, clean and well designed and most of all not overloaded. I'm just a "HTML-beginner" but it was very easy for me to edit the site in GoLive. Well, that made my day, because I needed something "designy" but still classic and inexpensive. - otherwise easy and fast downloading and no problems at all with the files I got. Good stuff!

If their own web site is any indication, this products generates sites that are a usability nightmare.
  • The 'enter' in the middle is most unwelcoming and inhibits proper search engine indexing.
  • "Entering" the site gives you a window without browser controls.
  • Increasing the text size in the browser does not work. Useless for the visually impaired. ANyway their text is too small, even for the 20/20 sighted.
  • The navigation mechanisms are arcane, to say the least. What's with that funky scroller thing in the middle? Why the tabs along the bottom?
  • The window cannot be resized. The designer's saying "I know what's best for you, lowly user!" Nice.
  • I just hate having to mouse over things just to see if they're "hot." Buttons and links should be easily identifiable.
All the moving, sliding, morphing widgets, while cool to some, do not necessarily make a good design.
