Product Description:

Built upon the award-winning You Control custom menu utility, You Control: Fonts allows you to create a custom font menu that not only displays the fonts in their own typeface, but also groups your fonts by family, so your font menus are more streamlined making it easier to find your fonts.

With You Control: Fonts, you get a single font menu that is consistent across all of your favorite applications. Rather than modifying the font menu that belongs to an application, the You Control: Fonts menu resides in the Mac OS X menu bar next to your default system menu items (like the Airport monitor for example).

The You Control: Fonts menu will not only display the fonts in their own typeface, but will also give you a waterfall style preview of each of your fonts. You choose the text, the size and how many lines to display.
Supports popular applications including:
  • Adobe Illustrator CS2
  • Adobe InDesign CS2
  • QuarkXPress 7.0
  • Macromedia Freehand MX
  • Macromedia Flash MX
  • Macromedia Fireworks MX

  • Standard Cocoa applications that use the Font Panel

What's new in this version:

  • Added support for Microsoft Word 2008.
  • Added an option for checking for beta updates on auto-update. This allows you to get the latest beta releases if you want.

You Control: Fonts CommentaryDon't waste your time . . . - Version: 1.3 b1, 12/4/2007 02:07PM PST

I have a very stable (basic, clean, and unsullied) OS (10.4.11) with all pertinent updates.

Very simply, my Mac runs "rock solidly."

And, when I try applications like this one that are obviously buggy, I know it's *not* my system. When an application gives me trouble (like "You Control: Fonts" has), I know the *application* is TROUBLE.

This one quits spontaneously every time I try to use it. I gave up after about ten minutes of Open-Spontaneously Closing cycling. The program got deleted in short order.

When this is out of "beta," I'd like to try it --- again.

In the mean time, "one star" for good intentions?

What evah.

You Control: Fonts ReviewI know it's a beta - Version: 1.2b2, 11/24/2006 03:37PM PST

But it's still pretty bad.
I tried it with Notebook, and it's still incompatible.
I quit YCFb2, and then decided to give it a try with Mellel. I had to Force Quit YCFb2 twice. The second time was trickier since it kept disappearing from Activity Monitor.
Now YCFb2 won't launch properly, so I'll pass on testing it with Mellel. I just used Application Wizard to quit the You Control Fonts Engine.
One consolation star since the Menu did display my fonts properly once.
I really want to like this program, as well as You Control. After all, I already purchased them. Unfortunately those purchases were a waste of money and time.

You Control: Fonts ReviewMy jaw just dropped... - Version: 1.2b1, 11/21/2006 10:13AM PST

I installed 1.2b1 today on my powerpc after falling in love with the other You Control menu software, I figured i'd give their other products a try. first i downloaded the 1.1 release only to discover it did not work in my design apps. I poked around and found this beta available. Downloaded, installed it (had to force quit the running YouControl process to get the beta installed) and tested it in all my daily apps, indesign cs2, illustrator cs2, photoshop cs2, mail.app, word and excell, textedit. it worked in all apps but photoshop cs2.

the way that the You control font menu organizes itself is far superior to that which is default in the wysiwyg CS2 or osx font menus.

so then i set a hot-key to bring up the font menu and started working in illustrator cs2... select some text, hit the hot key and you have a well organized wysisyg 'marking menu' with all your fonts! my jaw dropped...

this is hands down the most fluid and natural way to work with changing type that I have come across. as a graphic designer i work with a lot of different fonts, this hotkey feature is amazing. when they get it to work in photoshop cs2 it well worth the price for any professional or type enthusiast.

the beta also doesn't seem to integrate with the other You Control menu as well as the previous release but with a few clicks you can get it positioned.
