SafariBookmarkChecker ReviewSo close! - Version: 1.30, 8/25/2007 10:46AM PST

This app is so close to being perfect. In terms of checking the bookmarks to find whether they're valid, it does a beautiful job. For those having troubles with it reporting too many time outs or not found pages, I'd recommend adjusting the preferences. Move the top slider towards cool and the bottom slider toward a higher number. Unlike another similar app I was able to tweak these settings adequately to get excellent results.

After that it falls apart a little. It's a little tedious and dangerous to go through the bookmarks it finds.

First off, there's no undo! If you delete a bookmark accidentally, your only option is to close without saving and start over again.

Second, there's not enough keyboard control. The app really needs the ability to move between bookmarks using the keyboard. A superfast shortcut to view the URLs would be nice too... I keep wanting to tap the right arrow key, like you can in NetNewsWire. Even better if I could also open the URLs in the background (again, like NetNewsWire)... This would allow me to go through the bad URLs very quickly.

If it had those features I would gladly pay money for it! Throw in the ability to check for duplicate URLs and I'd pay even more.

The majority of the "not found" bookmarks were in fact perfectly valid when visited.

Not helpful to me.

a few suggestions though:

- add keyboard-support:
- arrowkeys for moving up/down
- after delete with backspace select next bookmark
(nothing is selected at all at the moment)
- return to change the url

- lookup mannually changed urls immediatelly
- dont' relookup ok(200) bookmarks in the same session
- follow "moved" bookmarks and suggest the new url

i don't wanna sound too negative. the good news are: THE SPEED is incredible. it looked up my 600+ bookmarks within a minute. nice simple interface. the price is right.

if you implement the above you could easily charge 5 bucks or aks for a donation or s/th. i would pay.

I am getting ready to upgrade to Mac OS X 10.4 and wondered if this application works. I have questioned the developer, but they do not respond to emails.

SafariBookmarkChecker ReviewNice little app - Version: 1.27, 4/17/2005 03:30PM PST

If you have a plethora of bookmarks, SBC gives you keep a backup of your addresses and checks on their validity at your request.

When an installation wiped out my data, this application allowed me to quickly restore all my carefully compiled Safari bookbarks. Given Safari's difficulty in exporting bookmarks from other browsers I have installed, SBC does a real service -- one of those apps that does a small thing really well.

Great idea, but needs work. I know it's free, so I hate to complain. How about fixing it and charging? It reported numerous links that work fine, as being bad. When it finds a bad link, there is no way to delete and replace the bad link, except to do it manually, which is a major pain.

Fix it and I'll pay for it.
