SharedPlan Project Management ReviewPersonal version too limited - Version: 1.10.1, 12/10/2005 08:31AM PST

I have purchased the personal version of SP and found installation and registration very easy. My disappointment has been in the limitations of the personal version that were not apparent in the SP comparison charts. I have not found a way to use any of the resource cost data. It may be of value to enter the data for a team where there is one Pro version to analyse the costs, however the personal versions can only use the data for a reference. The Gantt chart is only editable in Pro, and that feature and cost reporting may make the move from personal to Pro SP a must. The help manual is too succinct to the point of appearing to be a features list only.

SharedPlan Project Management ReviewSolid tool, great value - Version: 1.9.4, 7/16/2005 10:44AM PST

I don't normally post to these forums but, I read a couple of the reviews below and wanted to add my feedback since it is completely opposite from some of that described below.

For $70 (we bought a couple of copies), this is an excellent tool and it works exactly as described on their web page and in the documentation. I guess that if people don't read that info then they may not find what they want but I don't think that's the fault of the software.

Anyway, it installed right off and is stable and consistent. Better than anything else I've found in this price range.

I'm using it on 10.4.

SharedPlan Project Management ReviewBeware - Version: 1.9.4, 7/11/2005 10:44PM PST

$70 is a lot to pay for nothing. If a mouse click or key-stroke produced the same action twice I was lucky. Printing was a dissaster (ten pages to print a pert chart of fifteen tasks).

Support was quick to answer simple preference questions and asked for a detailed description of my system, which I sent along with a detailed description of the many problems I encountered (ex.When you close a window the program quits; double click on a saved file and the program will open to an empty window.) They are not quick to answer anymore if ever.

Having said that, even If the program worked as advertised, it is still useless as a project manager because, oddly enough, it has no method for collapsing tasks into phases for an overview of your project. You cannot edit the gantt chart, which displays tasks in alphabetical order only. Unbelievable!

Hi,

This is a brief response to webdog's commentary below.

Regarding our frequent updates; it is indeed planned. We distribute frequent micro releases (X.X.X) when issues are resolved and tested by our team. This approach is based on feedback from our customers. We encourage our customers to upgrade at the X.X releases and upgrade at the X.X.X releases only if they are interested in the associated fix...it's about choice, customer choice.

Unfortunately, webdog was indeed unable to successfully install our trial software in spite of our having worked with him in attempting to resolve the issue he was experiencing (yes, we support people with questions and issues during the trial). Download/install issues occur very rarely (a handful of times over many, many thousand downloads and sales).

As always, we welcome any and all feedback. My email address is roger @ sharedplan.com (remove the spaces around the @).

Best of luck with all your projects!

SharedPlan Project Management CommentaryAbsolute disaster - Version: 1.9.3, 6/30/2005 06:58PM PST

First of all, I can never download the program. The developers says it's a problem with the server which sometimes (ahem, all the time) happens. And this program gets the all-time five-star award for number of updates. Ther's a new version almost every second day. Come on, who's kidding whom? Any program that needs so many updates hasn;t been "planned" well. I'm not your beta-tester "*censored*".

SharedPlan Project Management ReviewFantastic... - Version: 1.5.1.0, 10/2/2004 10:28AM PST

application that fit a need perfectly. I had a complex project coming up with many parts. I knew I wanted to us PM software for this and I knew I wanted to use my MAC so I checked version tracker. This application has a short learning curve and within a couple of hours I had my entire project laid out with milestones and was able to present it to my manager who was very happy with the results. There are a few things that need work. Gannt charts are excellent - printing them out needs some work. Same with resource management. Looks great on screen but falls short on the print out, which is basically a screen print that includes scroll bars etc. Print outs are the only minus IMHO.
Additional pluses are cross platform and price. Highly recommend.

We have been using SharedPlan on Mac OS X and Windows for about 2 months now. We had one minor issue with browser support soon after we purchased but they were able to resolve the issue the same day. While it doesn't have all the feaures of higher priced project management tools it does everything we need at a much lower overall cost.

I highly recommend this product.

SharedPlan Project Management Developer NoteWhy SharedPlan - Version: 1.4.4, 9/13/2004 10:31AM PST

The idea behind the SHARED in SharedPlan is that project plans may be shared between users and across platforms (Mac, Windows, Linux). Try that with Microsoft Project ;->

apart from not being able to save anything in the demo (making evaluation impossible) there seems something about the concept of SHARED plan i don't quite understand: you cannot SHARE plans in the personal edition, 'cause it's a single user licence, right? hmm.

but it's not for me to find out, it's in the dustbin.

For a long time I have been on the outlook for a project planning software.
Downloading, innstalling, trying out, saving, reopening, evaluating,
trying out and so on for days to see if it's the right software for me.
I pay for all the software I use and donate for donation-ware so that programmers can keep making software for me to use.
To evaluate a new software I need time.
Save what I have done, reopen, and work some more..

You never gave me the chance to save or print, so I have to start from zero after closing down.
Sorry but this is not for me.
