CleanArchiver CommentaryTry this updated version - Version: 2.4a4, 9/22/2009 09:05PM PST

I modified it and embeded info-zip and 7zip into it.
I added multi-volumes archives, compress ratio and password options.
Zip archive mode supports an option to customize filename encoding such as Windows codepages. 7zip supports an options to convert Unicode normalization in NFC which is well used in Windows and Linux. Above two options will help the users who use non-ascii filenames when exchanging archive between Mac and Windows & Linux.
You can use this freely. If you have any questions or problems, ask me anything, please.

CleanArchiver CommentaryInteresting option for a zipit utility - Version: 2.4a4, 5/8/2009 01:43PM PST

ps2os2
Several comments. The help was extremely brief. Even after reading it it was somewhat a guessing game for the utility.
I tried it and dragged 4 files to the utility window. It seemed to work but were or were did it put the zip file? I eventually found it and it was someplace you wouldn't expect to find it. It was on the same volume but in a completely disconnected folder. There doesn't seem to be a default as to where to put the zip file so instead of logically putting it in the same folder it puts it someplace else and you have to go searching for it.
The help needs expansion and either an option to where the zip file should be created or at least default it to the same folder.

CleanArchiver CommentaryProblem with some file types - Version: 2.3.1, 2/19/2008 12:00AM PST

I used CleanArchiver to archive some QuarkXpress 3.3 documents, then I extracted them from the .zip file that CleanArchiver created. This did not involve any burning to disc, or transfer over the internet. I simply created the .zip archive with CleanArchiver, then double-clicked on the .zip file. The file extracted, but it would not open with QuarkXpress 3.3. I could not even force it to open with Quark. The file apparently lost its file type or creator information, and the file's icon was replaced with a plain generic icon. CleanArchiver 2.3.1 should definitely NOT be used to archive QuarkXPress 3.3 documents, because the files when extracted from the archive are unusable, and many hours of work could be permanently lost, if this was the only archive of those files.

CleanArchiver ReviewWorks ok but slow - Version: 2.3.1, 11/17/2007 09:46PM PST

ZipIt is apparently broken by OSX 10.4.11 so this might be the only zip archiver left standing that is worth a look. Wow it's slow (G5 dual 2GHz with 4.6GB ram) and it is a tad non-standard but it does work.

*Review for Version 2.4a4*

Compared to StuffIt Standard, CleanArchiver works faster and the file sizes are smaller. Version 2.4a4 works fine and I hope that the development will be continued!

CleanArchiver ReviewA life saver - Version: 2.3.1, 7/30/2006 12:49PM PST

This application saved by entire project! I was working on a way to create Universal HTML Widgets that will work with both the Opera and Apple's Widget platform. But Mac OS's crappy handling of archives (.zip files) threatened the entire project. Now however, I have the first ever Universal HTML Widget runing on my desktop. So thanks! Highly recommended to avoid all kind of Mac OS crappy archive handeling and bundeling.

The inclusion of a "Delete Original File/Folder" feature would make this app perfect. Still, its clean and easy-to-use interface makes this a 5-star product.

CleanArchiver CommentaryDecompressor, please - Version: 2.3.1, 12/27/2005 06:43PM PST

I don't have this product since I use built-in zip or dmg to arcvive, but it looks like a good product. Now please write a decompressor so I can drop Stuffit, it's horrible and getting worse! So many times it can't even decompress it's own Stuffit-format files!
