Product Description:
ByteController is a small user interface utility for controlling iTunes. ByteController gives you three buttons in your menu bar: Previous Song, Next Song and Play/Pause. Holding the Previous Song and Next Song buttons plays fast forward or rewinds.
ByteController has hot keys for all button actions plus hot keys for controlling volume, and controlling ByteController.
ByteController supports Growl.

works as advertised. growl support. should be built into iTunes? yes, but on the other hand I love to have those little extras on my system only :-)

It looks like updating from 0.8.5 to 0.8.6 fixed the crashing on my macbook pro.
The 0.8.5 version would work fine for a while but then it would just disappear from the menu bar after a while.
So far this new 0.8.6 version has been running steadily all day. Thanks!

I'm a fan of this application, it's just too bad that like the reviewer below me, mine is also crashing. MacBook Pro C2D here.
