DOWNLOAD GNOMMAK'S FILE (below) TO MAKE MKVToolnix WORK (OTHERWISE IT WON'T WORK) - Version: 3.1.0, 1/30/2010 04:30PM PST

For whatever reason, the developer of MKVToolnix (Moritz Bunkus) always neglects to include in his MacUpdate.com and VersionTracker.com posts the very important fact that ALL THE FUNCTIONS OF MKVToolnix WILL NOT WORK UNLESS YOU HAVE COMPILED SEVERAL LIBRARIES ON WHICH IT RELIES. That is not an easy task even for a seasoned developer, and it's pretty much impossible for average users. Given that video creation, conversion, manipulation and file sharing have become fun hobbies for millions of both skilled and unskilled computer enthusiasts, there are a great many neophytes and intermediate users WHO COULD BENEFIT FROM MKVToolnix IF THEY KNEW THAT IT REQUIRED THE COMPILATION OF SEVERAL UNIQUE LIBRARIES, AND IF THEY WERE OFFERED A WAY TO DO THAT TO MAKE THIS PROGRAM WORK! Kudos to Mr. Bunkus for creating this program, and for keeping it free. But neither I nor most other MKVToolnix users can figure out why he always neglects to explain the critical piece of information — let alone provide a solution! Even more baffling, and frankly stupid, is that Mr. Bunkus could include all the necessary libraries in the final downloadable version that he makes available on MacUpdate.com and VersionTracker.com, but he does not !!!. I've seen developers do some pretty odd things in the past, but this one easily wins the developers' award for Most Retarded & Self-Defeating Omission!
However, a talented Ukrainian who goes by the username GNOMMAK (who, as far as I know, has no relationship with the developer) has again ridden to our rescue! For the last two or three versions of MKVToolnix, GNOMMAK has toiled to compile all the necessary libraries into the MKVToolnix application and make the fully functional program available to us for FREE! When the new version (3.1.0) was released yesterday, I emailed GNOMMAK to ask if he would teach me how to compile these libraries to make the new version fully functional. Here is his response [cleaned up, and with my emphases added]:
"Since then [when he made the last port for MKVToolnix 2.8.0 in May 2009] I made that program work fully transportable. After you emailed me i started porting the new one [version] 3.1.0 using Macport 1.8.2. I don't know how to explain how i made it :). It's really hard to my write the guide, because i don't now English very well :) I am ukrainian. For the first port it took me 3 days to learn many unix/linux commands. If you know mkvtoolnix.app its only a folder that contains binary files (programs), if you use macport it build for you that binary files and you can replace binary files from macport build folder to mkvtoolnix.app. But i think it will be hard — to you do all that things :) so i just send you ready program. Try to distribute it to large number of people as you can."
I was flabbergasted by GNOMMAK's generosity! He worked for 3 days on compiling all the libraries into MKVToolnix, then he just gave it away to anyone who wants it FREE OF CHARGE! What a great guy.
So, you can ignore the half-assed version available here and instead download the fully functional version of MKVToolnix here: http://uploading.com/files/7fmfbb97/Mkvtoolnix%2B3.1.0.zip/
BRAVO GNOMMAK !!
