Alias SketchBook Pro CommentaryAutodesk has finally opened their eyes... - Version: 2.0, 8/31/2007 08:20AM PST

primitivehuman--2008
An official employee of Autodesk, Chris Cheung, posted a comment on the SKP forum that development has been underway for a Universal Binary and is scheduled for release (as a Beta) at the end of the year.

"My goal is to keep Sketchbook as a standalone and grow the product without degrading the feel and usability of the original releases.

I am aware of the Mac Intel issues and that is one of our key goals moving forward (platforms & OS). I cannot say specifically what will be in the next release yet, but having you on the beta program would be a great help. I've had a huge outpour of support for taking over the project and, honestly, we are really excited about the future of the product."

The universal binary still hasn't been released and probably never will because the great people at Autodesk purchased Alias and they've killed development. Any email to them lately gets me forwarded to their knowledge base which is pretty much ignored by them. I guess they wanted to own Maya but could care less about Sketchbook yet they're still trying to capitalize on it by selling it as one of their flagship designer tools.

This is much worse than what Adobe did to the Macromedia products because they've actually improved them a little bit.

I think the only thing that Autodesk did for Sketchbook is replace the Alias logo with their own. A good way to tick someone off is sell them a $200 program and then kill support. Autodesk needs to fix the software or stop selling it altogether.

Alias SketchBook Pro ReviewWould be nice for $29 - Version: 2.0, 9/12/2006 05:18PM PST

Nice little application with a clean interface. Pretty responsive on a Macbook Pro even though it's not a UB.

But.

The price is a bit of a joke, really.
