Klondike CommentaryA Mac Tradition!! - Version: 10.3, 5/23/2009 09:45AM PST

I was thrilled to see an updated version of the original Klondike. 25 years ago I would bring my 512 Mac home from college on weekends with Klondike on its little black and White screen. My mother, now deceased, was mystified by the Mac but I showed her Klondike and she was hooked. I remember leaving for the day to go to the beach with totally absorbed in Klondike. When I returned she was still in the same spot playing Klondike ferociously.

After she died, I actually called Michael Casteel to thank him for all the pleasure he brought to her with this little game.

In April my iMac G5 running Tiger died, though I still have the Hard Drive and a running G3 Mac. I upgraded to a new Mac with Leopard and on a whim did a search on Version tracker and found this version. It now resides in my dock for quick games as a break from work. Mr. Casteel deserves a place in the Mac Hall of Fame for Klondike and all that makes the Mac Insanely Great!

Thank you, Michael Casteel!

Sincerely,
John Mallon

By the way, my all-time high score is 5,456. User tip: When I found the cards dealt in a way where I knew I could win, I would make a duplicate of that game and always reply just to see how high I could go. 5,456 is my record...so far. There ought to be a Klondike forum where people can swap stories and compete.

On my intel iMac running 10.4.7, the card faces are blurry and almost unreadable. Very distracting and I find myself using an older version of Klondike because of it.

Very nice little tweaks, they all function just fine . In my case I decided to go back to the prior version as I found the Card Faces clearer to look at. I will be the first to admit that may only be a matter of taste or the onset of the passing years. After-all I have been using this package since I got my brand new MacPlus running OS 6.03.
