Product Description:

Stock WatchTower is used to quickly find and analyze growth stocks by using your high-speed Internet connection to organize data and charts from multiple websites. How much time do you spend sorting through the same stocks each day? Stock WatchTower will increase your efficiency by allowing you to focus on those stocks that are approaching key decision points.

Stock WatchTower focuses on two key areas of investing in growth stocks: finding stocks with promising characteristics, and providing the information needed for you to analyze the stocks after they are found.

Promising growth stocks are found by downloading information for all stocks, and then grouping the stocks for further analysis. Each stock tends to follow a trend, and Stock WatchTower uses the principle of assigning a type of "base" in order to describe each trend. Stocks showing the same trend are then grouped in Smart WatchTowers in order to quickly analyze stocks with similar characteristics. A Smart WatchTower can also change the base automatically based on your own criteria. For example, a stock that is above its 50-Day Moving Average and is approaching a fresh 52-Week High may be ready to break out to new highs and start an uptrend. You can also refine these criteria by adding other factors, such as if the stock is in a top performing Industry Group, is showing high Relative Strength, and has high earnings and sales growth rates.

Stock WatchTower then helps you to analyze these promising stocks so that you can make a buy decision. Presenting fundamental and technical information alongside weekly and daily charts does this. This information is derived from multiple websites, and you can select which information is highlighted in this detailed display. You can also jump to your favorite website to quickly look at its information for that particular stock. Stock WatchTower also retains articles that you downloaded from your favorite websites that you can then refer to for a trade.

What's new in this version:

  • Major new features and bug fixes are included in this beta
  • Major New Features
    • The Navigator window is now tabbed so that different WatchLists are shown in different tabs.
    • An Industry List tab is included to provide a quick overview of industry groups.
    • A Favorites tab is included.  Select any Watchlists, SmartWatchList, etc and mark it with a Favorite category on the Navigator window, and then it will show up on the Favorites tab.
    • A Filter setting is added.  This is a very powerful feature.  Click one or more WatchLists or Smart WatchLists, and all other WatchLists are filtered by only included symbols that are also in the selected filters.  Use this to quickly create new Smart WatchLists on the fly.  For example, click on a Smart WatchList labeled as ">13 Day" and "> 50-Day" to find stocks that satisfy both conditions.
    • The Chart View is now tabbed.  The "Extra Info" tab show a table of the earnings history.  The "Safari" tab provides instant access to information for the symbol on a specify website.  The "Unused" tabs will be configured for additional websites.  Please suggest other uses also.
    • International symbols are now supported.  Enter symbols in the format used by Yahoo Finance.
  • Bug fixes
    • A couple of problems were found that caused random crashes.  Additional code was added to report future bugs in the Debug.txt file.
    • Historical data was not saved correctly at all times in previous versions.  This will self-correct during your next update if needed.

Stock WatchTower Reviewspeed issues - Version: 1.2.3, 4/28/2005 04:30PM PST

I think it is a good start. However it is slow as a dog and keeps not responding on Tiger. It would be MUCH better and more useful if it drew the graphs instead of downloading them. The "safari 6000 downloads limit" error is annoying. I think it is written in Applescript or feels like it, it should really be written in a faster language.

The strength of this application is in it's algorithms, it is fairly well organized.
It presents a nice set of data and you can tell the person either understands the market technicals or is just an O'Neil worshipper as I think it probably works better in conjunction with a subscription to Investors Business Daily. . The "watchtowers" are kind of neat and make good sorting algorithms.

Overall it is a useful tool if you have some patience (it takes like 1.5 hours to download the data over cable modem) and it takes a few minutes to sort the information. However, when it is done is does make a decent screening tool. I am going to give it a -neutral- rating, it is functional but rough around the edges. If it drew it's own graphs, and was faster, It would definately be worth the money. However, I don't see any movement towards those goals at this point. I am not sure there aren't better tools out there.

Stock WatchTower ReviewGreat start - Version: 1.2.3, 3/4/2005 11:26PM PST

I have been using this for around a month and it is great. I have some feature requests, like the ability to import lists of stocks or the ability for it to pull the IBD 100, but other than that, it's a great start to what I am sure will become a fantastic product.

Stock WatchTower ReviewNice Effort - Version: 1.2.1, 12/15/2004 08:36PM PST

I agree this is an impressive effort. For many investors the collection of data to begin analysis is time consuming. Much of the preliminary search analysis can be completed by this software based on criteria you set. Then take the subset of stocks that pop up in the "watches" and further set trend criteria. The user interface has some graphics problems while updating windows but it is passably functional. For those Mac users who understand the basics of stock analysis or are willing to learn this program certainly could be prove to be a useful tool. At this price compared to its power it is worth a try of the demo
