Product Description:

XeTeX is a TeX-based typesetting tool for Mac OS X, making use of Unicode and AAT font technology.
XeTeX is designed to provide a tool particularly suited to formatting long, structured documents, and supporting multilingual typesetting and complex non-Roman scripts. It merges the venerable TeX processor developed by Donald E. Knuth with the Unicode rendering capabilities of ATSUI and AAT fonts on Mac OS X. This means that it can be used to typeset complex scripts just as readily as English, by simply specifying an appropriate AAT font from among those installed in OS X; no complex font installation or configuration is needed.

What's new in this version:

This new release provides enhanced support for Quartz effects, including geometric transformations, alpha channels, and shadowing; support for LaTeX graphics and color included in the standard XeTeX installer; new features for access to AAT font features; and installation improvements including an i-Package distribution.

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.3
  • Mac OS X 10.2

Additional Requirements:

  • Mac OS X 10.2 or higher
    existing TeX system.

XeTeX ReviewVery promising! - Version: 0.8, 6/3/2004 05:58AM PST

My grievance with LaTeX has always been the difficulties of installing fonts other than the basic ones and the cumbersome support of utf8. Well XeTeX promises to solve these problems and add support of OpenType Pro fonts as well! It still isn't compatible with all .sty files but it's only version 0.8 and new versions are frequent.
