Dossier ReviewDossier "na ka oi" (the best!) - Version: 2.0.1, 2/12/2006 07:52PM PST

How to describe Dossier except as the most flexible notes organizer I have found to date. I have tried at least 6 others. I started using Dossier a bit over a year ago, and I have watched it steadily improve over that time: at least 5 version updates. It does exactly what I want it to do for capturing thoughts, clippings, pictures and notes, all in an organized folder and note style. It works with customizations like keyboard shortcuts, it allows easy posts of entries to a web blog, you can mail the entry or print it or export it (text, rtf, Word). You can apply almost all TextEdit stylings, fonts, sizes, etc. In truth, I still have not uncovered all of its features & functionality (Appelscript, Rendezvous, Smart Folders!). But I do know that when I shortly upgrade to a new iMac DualCore, my favorite notes organizer is ready: it's already Universal Binary!
And the best of the best, is just how responsive is its author Mr. R. Minnerick. I have tried my best to be *censored*y and complain about some missing feature - but he just writes back in a day or two and says the feature will be part of the next update -- and then alerts me about a week later that it is available in a downloadable update!!

Dossier ReviewAbsolutely critical! - Version: 2.0.1, 2/9/2006 04:25PM PST

In short, I don't go it a day without Dossier. I use it for keeping a journal for work, noting what I've done each day for each project I'm working on. I wanted something for which I could view or search everything cronologically, or else by project. Also, the ability to paste in pictures/plots/etc. was essential. Dossier more than fills this role, with additional features like smart folders which are also helpful. Since I'm writing every day and often pasting pictures, there's quite a lot of stored information. Despite this, Dossier launches quickly and without problems.
Support is also exceptional! A couple strange behaviors slipped in with the upgrade from 1.? to 2.0, which I emailed the developer about. Each time, the email was acknowledged almost immediately and fixed within a couple hours. Version 2.0.1 contains all the fixes, and I haven't been able to find anything wrong with it.
Truly great stuff, I recommend it highly!

I'm not sure why this p.i.m does not get more attention. It's a stable, mature (for a 1.x release) and full-featured journal, database and publishing platform that can change the way you work.

After trying out many for months (including macjournal and devonthink and Current/Flow, probably the three apps in the same class with this one) I went with Dossier because its streamlined/without bloat, a great text editor, and easily stores and publishes documents.

All of them offer something slightly different, but as a writer who just wanted to get my work done in an elegant, straightforward and organized way I found Dossier does everything I need (write text in a pleasing, simple window; publish to the web; publish to Mail; organize all my documents and info; and export into multiple formats--which could be better and trust will be in the upcoming 2.0 release).

In short, this is a great app that deserves a wider user base and I recommend you try it. The developer is committed and responds quickly.
