First, this little AppleScript works perfectly. It saves you from having to navigate to Input Menu in International in Preference Panes to access keyboard viewer, or from having to use right-side menu space for the Show Input Menu flag icon.
Second, there's no need for KeyCaps. This version allows you to choose your font.
Third, when I float my mouse over the green (+/maximize) window button, it lights up, and clicking it gives me a lovely big view of the keyboard viewer.
This is v 1.5 running on 10.4.7. YMMV, but I give this 5 stars.

FYI -- The old KeyCaps program wtill runs great if you can get a copy of it. (Find a friend who's been upgrading since OS 10.1). It's actually better than the current Keyboard Viewer, since it allows you to select font.

Too bad neither one allows you to make the display bigger. Too tiny on a big screen....

Or you can just go into system preferences select International go to the Input Menu tab check the box next to show input menu... then you can just click the drop down next to the clock and select Shoe Keyboard Viewer when ever you want instead of searching for and going to the program then opening it when you need it and saves download time too.

Why did Apple ever stop including KeyCaps? Anyway, this little utility does the job at the best price possible. Kudos, kudos, kudos.

KeyViewer Troubleshooting ReportSolution for those who can't launch this - Version: 1.4, 8/14/2005 07:14PM PST

Saw this on another website, and it worked for me, so I thought I'd post it here. When I first tried to launch this, it just bounced once in the Dock and then disappeared. No errors, no nothing.

Dive into the package contents and turn on "execute" permission on KeyViewer.app/Contents/MacOS/applet.

Hope that helps some more people!

Key Caps does the job, but some of us don't have that app any more. The function can also be reached through the system's menulet, but that takes up extra space on small screens, and one might not feel like waving the national flag in that menulet.
