Product Description:

DeskCover solves an unrecognized yet widespread aesthetic error in Mac OS X. On lightly colored or busy desktop pictures, icon names become nearly unreadable. DeskCover inserts a customizable translucent sheet between your icons and the desktop picture. This sheet automatically resizes itself upon launch to fit all desktop icons within the sheet. The color and translucency of the sheet are modifiable from the preferences window, which can be accessed through a menu bar item.

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.3
  • Mac OS X 10.2

Additional Requirements:

  • Mac OS X 10.2 or higher

DeskCover ReviewGreat! Some small enhancements could make it even better! - Version: 1.2, 7/5/2004 04:46AM PST

Sirocco--2008
Love the general idea; especially love being able to control the color. Two things for your next version: 1) I really like the idea of a gradient, but could the degree/rate of gradation be user-customizable with a slider bar? I only store icons on the right side of my desktop and would like to restrict DeskCover to the right-hand 1/3 of the page with a rapid gradient. And, 2): every morning when I turn on the Mac I have to reset the coverage area, because it keeps reverting to an earlier setting. But it's a good product, and allows me greater freedom in choosing desktop pictures because I know I'll be able to see my icons! Thanks.

There was a glitch in version 1.0 that caused the desktop sheet to have a width of zero when there were not a sufficient number of icons on the desktop. Version 1.1 rectifies this problem, and is now available for download. It also includes some other minor enhancements, including a readme available from the "About" window.
