The Print Shop ReviewPoor flexibility with iCal integration - Version: 2.0.6, 9/24/2008 11:22PM PST

I bought this program specifically because it is one of few (paper) publishing programs that integrate with iCal. I am not at all pleased with it. I found the result to be unusable.

When testing functionality in a monthly calendar, the events ported over allright, but each day's events are a single block of text in the following format: "(start time - end time) - Event Name", "(start time - end time) - Event Name", "(start time - end time) - Event Name"... There doesn't seem to be a way to search and replace so that I can quickly change the commas to line breaks, or get rid of the unwanted end time.

I CAN edit the text for each day, but I have to edit day by day. There is no way to batch process your changes. For my needs, this is no improvement over the time-intensive and repetitive process of creating each month in Word.

Further, the block of event text, once line breaks are manually is inserted, have wide line leading and I don't see any way to change that either.

Also, there doesn't seem to be a way to regulate the number of rows for the monthly calendar. The template uses 6 rows no matter what. It doesn't matter whether I make the event text large or small: I can't seem to resize the row height or cell size in any way. The row does not expand to incorporate a long list of events: those days are just truncated without any indicator that there is any text missing.

There IS a lot of incorporated clip art, but much of it is unsophisticated and cartoonish. The "professionally designed" templates seem coarse and uninspired. I'm not terribly impressed.

That being said, my interest in the software has been along fairly narrow featureset lines. I already use other layout software that I prefer even just visually... So there may be layout features that others may find useful.

Also, though I I found the template implementation rigid and constraining, other users may find it helpful and comforting.

Without a try and buy demo version.... I'm not giving away $70 for the possible pleasure of having software I don't or can't use.

Developer.... heads up... put a time limitation on full-use to try before buy, and you'll sell a lot more of these.

I received a response on the next business day. They seem to think the installer is confusing "Default Folder X" or "Magical" with "The Print Shop" Turning these off did not help my case.

I restarted in safe mode (hold down the shift key) it took a long time to boot (weight down the shift key... lol) but once it did I logged on and had no problem running the 2.0.6 installer.

The Print Shop Troubleshooting ReportProblem with iTunes playlists - Version: 2.0.5, 9/14/2007 02:10PM PST

With this v.2.0.5 and previous version, and iTunes v7.4.1, there seems to be a problem in Print Shop displaying the itunes playlists. I am not seeing my custom playlists at all and the ones that are showing are the default apple playlists like 90's Music, Recently Added, etc. But even those playlists are not accurate and are missing hundreds of titles.

Anyone else having this problem.

I'm on a 2.16GHz iMac

The Print Shop ReviewGreat product - why all the confusion. - Version: 2.0.5, 6/17/2007 05:46AM PST

I don't understand why people are so confused with this download - it says "License: update" at the top, so clearly it's an updater not a full product. Those wanting feature information can click the link to go to the developer's website for all the info they want on the product.

I've used The Print Shop for years now. It was greatly enhanced by MacKiev for Mac OS X. The integration with OS X is phenomenal, and the features are robust. I have used it for countless projects and still find some new feature on occasion. MacKiev continues to improve and update the product regularly, so you don't feel as if you've bought a dead-end application. I highly recommend it for great results.

This update installed in seconds, no problem.

The Print Shop ReviewLove MacKiev software! - Version: 2.0.5, 6/12/2007 11:18AM PST

I just downloaded the PrintShop update and it works fine. I used the old Broderbund version for years prior to OSX and was happy when MacKiev did the OSX version. I've been using their OSX versions for a couple of years now. Their OSX versions are so much better than another company that has tried to port over some of the old software. MacKiev does a great job integrating OSX, such as accessing iLife apps. I also use their OSX version of KidPix Deluxe at school. The kids love it.. Keep the great software coming!
