BumperCar ReviewWorks as promised! - Version: 2.0.3, 12/14/2005 11:19PM PST

With a teenage daughter who was spending too much time chatting, on Yahoo mail, and MySpace, etc., this was just the trick! The ability to limit her time and keep her from surfing at 2am has gone a long way to keeping things under control.

BumperCar CommentaryBuy ContentBarrierX instead - Version: 2.0.4, 12/14/2005 08:15AM PST

I bought this for my kids, but it really didn't serve the purpose I was looking for. To REALLY protect your kids against bad sites on the internet, use Intego's ContentBarrierX. This is a much more thorough solution.

By the way, the previous user's comments are unwarranted. If you purchase a serial for Bumper Car, and then in a few months need to re-install, you will find that the code has expired. However, if you go to the site, you can renew your license with a new code for FREE. It is very easy, as I have done it. It is merely a protection device for the seller.

BumperCar ReviewSneaky company "forgets" to tell you in advance that serial will expire every 1-2 months - Version: 2.0.3, 10/7/2005 10:22PM PST

I purchased BumperCar, a kid-safe browser for my 11 y/o daughter, for $30. It is decent as a browser and only minimally buggy in its settings (manually inputting forbidden URLs does not work from the settings window, only from the main browser window by using a button or menu item).

But the biggest problem is the following.

When I received my confirmation email with my password, I found the following line in it:

"The above code is good for 1-2 months following your purchase,
then it expires. Should you need to re-register your game after
the code expires, simply retrieve a new one using our Code
Retrieval System at https://store.freeverse.com/code/"

I sent them the following:

"This is totally unacceptable. You should have warned
me about this in advance.

It is not a practice that I was supposed to
anticipate. I have purchased many software products
but I have never encountered this [...]. Besides, since
when is BumperCar a GAME??? I purchased your product
as a web browser for my daughter, not as a game for
myself. She uses it for school stuff. What is she
supposed to do if the code expires and I happen to be
away which I do often?

I want my money back. "

They have not even had the decency to respond.

BumperCar Review29.95 well spent - Version: 2.0, 5/2/2005 12:35PM PST

I purchased BumperCar for the computer in my 12 year old's room. It works flawlessly and gives my wife and I peace of mind about his web browsing. Since time can get away from him while playing web based games, the timing filter is awesome.

Purchased it online without the previous poster's problems and they lowered the price from $50.00 to $29.95. For the peace of mind, it's a bargain.

BumperCar Developer NoteBumperCar Demo Available - Version: 1.0, 5/5/2004 09:36AM PST

Hi all, As you can tell the BumperCar demo is now available. Further screenshots and an in-depth PDF describing BumperCar and it's features are linked from the BumperCar homepage. (freeverse/bumpercar). BumperCar provides much better content control, many more features and is simpler to administer then proxy filters. It's also significantly cheaper then the competion -- especially in an educational site licensing environment. If you have any specific questions, please email us. We're very proud of BumperCar and think it's a great addition to the Mac OS X platform. Cheers, Ian Freeverse

BumperCar Commentarydemo please!! - Version: 1.0, 5/1/2004 05:44AM PST

I can't find any user feedback, no reviews, nothing. $50 is a lot to spend on something without more info than the manufacturer's description. But if it works, and works well it would be just what I'm looking for. Please get the demo up and running soon.

BumperCar CommentaryFills a need - Version: 1.0, 4/22/2004 05:27PM PST

Actually this application fills an important need. With the laws regarding internet usage and schools educators are in an interesting position. We feel the need to introduce our students to the internet and teaching them how to find information and make use of the various technologies. At the same time the laws require us to protect students from the many things that would be inappropriate for them to view. In a world where people purchase the domain for google spelled wrong so that they can put a porn site up there things like this are sadly necessary.

I won't review this until I've used it but to the person below I can speak from experience: proxy filters for schools are not cheap. In fact they are very expensive and if the the pricing for this is good in comparison to the many solutions my district had open to us than this could be meeting a very big demand.

$50? You must be shrooming.<br><br>Seriously though, filtered proxies are usually free, and serve the same purpose, and that's only if you're stupid enough to let your young children use the Internet.
