Actual ODBC SQL Server driver ReviewExcellent product fills an important niche - Version: 2.8e, 12/9/2008 03:45PM PST

512Kmac

This product is invaluable for connecting FileMaker Pro databases to ODBC databases accessed via SQL Server.

My client, a financial services company, has deployed this SQL Server driver on multiple computers for about four years. It has proven to be highly reliable. Setup is easy -- especially after the first one. A graphic designer in the client's office sets up new computers with no intervention from me.

Support is excellent, friendly and knowledgeable but depends on a limited pool of people.

Also see some usage tips I intend to post shortly.

Jonathan, the owner of the company, called me at my office in Switzerland to walk me through some installation problems I was having (no fault of the software). Talk about service.

to spend your DB Connectivity time and dollars, bar none.

Was a long standing OpenLink customer. Had to deal with an issue on their driver. One day decided to try Actual's drivers. Wow. And much less cost. All of a sudden I had fast and reliable data whereas before I had to code a workaround.

From OpenLink I got propaganda sales materials. From Actual I got the most amazing customer care and attention with dedicated and responsive interaction committed to following through on solutions. I also got the a company that genuinely appreciated my purchasing their goods.

Having used multiple products from multiple vendors, I am 100% satisfied with these people and their product. They know their stuff and have solutions for all manner of connectivity issues. You're not going to get better than this.

I had been searching for a long time for a solution to connect to SQL Server from a Mac for a reasonable price. I initially had problems with Icelandic character encodings with this product, but the author quickly fixed that when I reported it.

I've been searching for a way to connect to my company's SQL server to import data into a FMP DB. I thought I was forever condemned to use my PC as an intermediary between the two. Thankfully, Actual’s product has filled the gap! I can now directly import into FMP 6 from our SQL db! What's more, Jonathan (the developer) literally went out of his way to help me with a technical issue I was having by stopping by my company while he was serendipitously in my city! Certainly, one can't expect house-calls (or business-calls in this case) to frequently occur, but any developer willing to do so should be applauded for his dedication to the customer and his product. Jonathan was able to solve my issue in no time and now I'm happily working with SQL data on my Mac! $29 seems like a very reasonable price to pay for the convenience. Keep up the good work!
