Product Description:

TCstripper is an AppleScript droplet to check if files with document file extensions (eg. MP3, PDF, JPG) contain Mac OS Type & Creator information which enables the file to execute potentially malicious code if openend by double clicking or Cmd-O in the Finder.
TCstripper allows to check multiple files, folders, and nested folders at once by drag&drop.
TCstripper identifies suspicious files and then offers to trash it or to deactivate the inappropriate Type & Creator info so the file can be openend without the ability to execute code which can be hidden in ID3 tags of MP3 files for example.

What's new in this version:

  • Added: Ability to process nested folders
  • Added: Ability to trash files
  • Added: Ability to skip files
  • Added: Quit dialog
  • Added: ReadMe
  • Added: Example "virus" (there's also a version without example "virus" see alternate download URL)

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.3
  • Mac OS X 10.2

Additional Requirements:

I thought that it would be a good idea to have something on my Mac in
case I have any viruses or trojans, but when I try to run this program it
tells me the following message:

"There is no default application specified to open the document
"TCstripper11.sit"."

Is there any way to fix this, because I'm really worried that I might have
some viruses.

TCstripper Usage TipContains example "virus" - Version: 1.1, 4/14/2004 12:45PM PST

The archive contains an example "virus" so an active virus scanner will see this and either delete the whole archive or just the "virus" file, depending on whether it scans downloads or archives undergoing decompression. It would probably be helpful to include a link to the archive without the "virus". I added the quotes since this concept file isn't really a virus, its more of a trojan horse since it can't spread on its own, one would need to manually send it to others.
