Product Description:

rsyncbackup is a handy tool for scheduled backups using rsync. rsyncbackup lets you easily setup multiple source folders, and destinations, both locally, your ipod or external firewire disk, or remote destination using ssh.

rsyncbackup has no GUI, but are based on editing configuration files. The script is meant to be run in a crontab, so user interaction is not necessary.

Warning: Basic terminal skills required. Please read the readme.html or look at the product homepage.

What's new in this version:

rsyncbackup version 1.0 released. Here are the cangelog:

  • Great improvement of user manual.
  • Added support for remote sources. This allows synchronizing in example bookmarks, configuration, iPhoto and iTunes library and much more between several computers.
  • Fixed growl error notifications to be sticky.

Just what I was looking for, after a few modifications with emacs:

1. changed the default configuration directory so I don't have to use -x all the time

2. changed some of the output so I wouldn't get messages like
"Backup of this source took 1 minutes and 0 seconds seconds"

3. corrected the spelling of "finnished" throughout

This tool does not support resource forks, so unless you want to mangle your files you'll have to download an additional package and figure out how to install it.

You'll also have to know how to add cron jobs and monitor them.

This is an admin only type tool. Regular users will need to look elsewhere.
