Sound Grinder CommentaryGreat, but missing something simple... - Version: 3.3.8, 11/28/2009 12:15PM PST

Love this program for converting flac files but the metadata functions are just poorly thought out. Really, you've got to remember to press the Option key to edit text??? This program seriously needs a "Transfer existing Metadata" button or check-box so that this is transferred from one format to the next without a bunch of time-wasting editing. Maybe someday this will be fixed.

Sound Grinder ReviewAn Outstanding Product and Company - Version: 3.2.6, 9/9/2008 04:40PM PST

The Madison Group
Our two companies have been using Sound Grinder from Monkey Tools for three years. Sound Grinder has produced outstanding results for us. The SG interface is very clean, intuitive and easy to use yet provides a high level of control over the sound, components and format of final product. Sound Grinder features and performance compare favorably with several professional studio applications costing many times more. The learning curve is quick and results are immediate out of the box. Monkey Tools provides prompt, reliable and informed support for its product. We use 12 software applications for mastering music albums and the assistance we received from Monkey Tools is better than our experience with any other software company that we have dealt with. We enthusiastically recommend Monkey Tools and Sound Grinder to anyone in the business of making music. Do yourself a favor and try this product. You will not be disappointed.

All I needed was to convert a flac file to something usable. For that I tried to demo this program and was prevented not only of testing it but when I tryed to uninstall it basically hijacked the Finder and crashed it. I have nothing good to say about this sofware.

I just bought SG 3.0.2. I frequently download live shows from bands that are taper friendly. SG makes my life easy when converting FLAC to MP3. I created a droplet with the settings I wanted and then just drap the .flac files to the droplet icon and the files get converted to Mp3. The real nice thing is that it transfers flac tags to the Mp3 id. If you want to normalize the music bfore converting to Mp3 it does that to. Even if you own iTunes, SG will make converting music to Mp3/Mp4 easier by only having to copy the smaller Mp3/Mp4 files to iTunes vice the full WAV/AIFF files which then have to be converted and then you'll need to delete the orignal WAV/AIFF file in iTunes.

The only thing I wish it had now was the ability to handle Shorten (.shn) files. There are still a few people who post live shows in Shorten format vice FLAC.

On my iMAC running OSX (10.3.9) Sound Grinder performs conversions better than iTUNES and has features for normalizing audio files to a common volume level as well as several other very useful features. It is VERY easy to use; the user guide is VERY easy to understand; and the tech support is OUTSTANDING! I love this product and recommend it highly.
