Product Description:

RCDefaultApp is a preference pane that allows a user to set the default application used for various URL schemes, file extensions, file types, and MIME types. MacOS X uses the extension and file type settings to choose the application when opening a file in Finder, while Safari and other applications use the URL and MIME type settings at other times for content not related to a file (such as an unknown URL protocol, or a media stream).

Added Dutch localization. (contributed by Simon G Maasdam)
Updated Japanese localization. (contributed by E-WA)
Updated French README. (contributed by Claude Le Mestric)
Sort application names in the popup menu.

This version does not work with Panther - Version: 2.1, 9/21/2009 03:40PM PST

Could not use this on my Panther machine. Developer has been notified and responded, in part, as follows:

"... there is no new functionality for Panther users in this release, except for the Spanish localization (which could be copied in manually if it is important). There is a new feature for 10.4, and more for 10.5+. It did work on 10.4, as I tested that successfully."

"...I'll look at it when I get the chance, which may not be for several days."

One of the must-haves in the Mac System Preferences and now it's back for Snow Leopard, thanks!

This was a nice pref pane, but it has not been updated to work with Leopard or Snow Leopard. No visible way to communicate with the developer. Too bad...
