Product Description:

Streamers automates the process of recording audio streams, using Ambrosia Software's WireTap, and converting them to .m4a or .mp3 in iTunes. You can build a list of streams to record immediately or to schedule for later recording. The program also lets you maintain a library of shows that can be recorded on a weekly, monthly, or daily basis. (Streamers uses iCal for scheduling.)

I use this to maintain the latest of various NPR shows on my ipod. Some of these are included in the Library by default.

Note that by default iCal will open Streamers two minutes before a recording is scheduled to begin. Two minutes later, you will see Streamers load the scheduled Task List and begin your recording.

What's new in this version:

Version 28: Fixed Streamers to work with RealPlayer 10

Version 27: Altered iTunes import to fix a problem with non-English localizations (feedback appreciated from international users)

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

Streamers ReviewGreat! (Once you get it working) - Version: 28, 2/19/2005 07:15PM PST

Streamers is a great program. I can set it up to run in the middle of the night and have radio programs to listen to the next day at the office (my office doesn't allow us to do internet streams). It works really well, but I found it a little difficult to set up. When I first installed the program, the timed recordings worked, but the files didn't convert into mp3 format automatically. I tinkered with the programs I had installed on my computer and where they were located and re-installed the program, and now it works beautifully. (I think my problem was that I had Streamers in a folder within the applications folder, and not in the applications folder itself.) I use the RealOne version, as the Real Player 10 version didn't work--apparently there are still a few bugs that need to be worked out.

Also, I found it a little hard to find the original wiretap program. The version on Ambrosia's website is now Wiretap Pro -- now, they have it set up so that you can keep using the free features (aiff recording) if you don't pay, but you get a pop-up message. This version is not compatible with Streamers. However, the original wiretap is still out there, but it would be really helpful if the Streamers page offered a link to it.

Overall, I heartily recommend this program. NOTE: I do not use the scheduling feature, so I cannot comment on that section of the program.

Streamers Developer NoteFeedback requested on RealPlayer 10 final - Version: 28, 10/3/2004 09:47AM PST

Streamers 28 worked fine with RealPlayer 10 beta and with RealOne - the earlier version. I'm now encountering some odd bugs with the final version of RealPlayer 10. If you're using the non-beta RealPlayer 10, please let me know by email (see help file) whether Streamers is working properly for you and what sort of trouble, if any, you're having. Note that only streams whose Stream Format is set to Real, rather than Other, ought be affected. Thanks.

Streamers Developer NoteStreamers needs to be dragged to Applications - Version: 28, 8/26/2004 04:20PM PST

The way I packaged up the latest version might lead to problems. In order for iCal to find Streamers (and so for scheduled recordings to work), Streamers (the app itself - not the folder containing the app) needs to be dragged to the Applications folder. So when you download, open the folder containing the version of Streamers you want (for RealPlayer 10 or RealPlayer 9) and drag the Streamers app to your Applications folder. I'll probably package the next version differently to avoid this wrinkle.
