Thanks everyone for your comments thus far. I was unaware that Google could be searched on text with that command, that is very nice. While this does that too, it will work for those that don't remember it by clicking on the Google logo. Also, often you might be in an email and think that you want to search on something, so you can click the button or issue the command and type in what you want to search for. I believe that the base code I used was from Eudora (noted in the code) and if you don't like Google, you can change it to another site. I may create a new one for another site.

shift-cmd-L searches google for the selected text in lots of apps now.
Amazing how fast it is, too. I've noticed lots of new services in the services submenu of the application menu since upgrading to 10.3.3
