I tried to rename a not Admin User without a PW. When i logged as Admin I doesn't get the Simple User in the list. When I logged in as the Simple User Acounts Enhancer will have a Password. But this user dosn't have one!
Can anybody tell how he get this SW running?

I think this software is still in Beta?!

Is there a ReadMe or anything else? I looked on the Website an on the Immage but there is nothing.

I tested version 1.0 and 1.1 of Account Enhancer on few macs and it worked fine but unfortunately it had some very bad bugs, which I and the users discovered later. I am very sorry for the problems Account Enhancer caused on some computers. To release Accounts Enhancer with these bugs was a big mistake and I really regret it. I have now worked for few days with rewritting the application and testing it on more computers. If you are not sure if you should use Accounts Enhancer please create a new temporary account and test it on this account... or you can read the article in Apple Support Database to manually change short names (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106824). Regards, Krstofer Szymanski.

I wanted a way of doing this before it came out, but luckily for me i decided to wait before trying it, and after seeing the results i don't think i will be messing with it....i'm going to leave my short name just as it is.

Accounts Enhancer CommentaryWouldn't even try it... - Version: 1.2, 3/28/2004 09:04AM PST

I may be wrong, but from my understanding, this is a very dangerous thing to do in any *nix env. Ask any *nix based ISP if this is an option they support... generally speaking, nope.

Accounts Enhancer CommentaryHey stop killing the dev... - Version: 1.2, 3/28/2004 05:48AM PST

m.balistreri
you are not paying for this, so report problems in a kind way! For those who reformatted: was enough to start in single user mode and re-add your user to the admin group (editing /etc/groups), and revert back to the new name editing /etc/passwd.

P.S: no im not the dev, just it bugs me to see *some* people being so unkind.

Accounts Enhancer ReviewWorks fine - Version: 1.2, 3/28/2004 04:31AM PST

I didn't test any of the previous versions but this one works fine for me and is simple to use. I'd like to see the ability to change the location of the home directory in Accounts Enhancer.

Accounts Enhancer ReviewThe app seems... - Version: 1.2, 3/28/2004 04:00AM PST

Gene van Troyer

...to do what it claims (v.1.1.1), but after using it, I seem to have lost the ability to bypass the login prompt. The old short account name is still in the system somewhere, and some apps keep asking for for its password. Otherwise, I haven't lost any access capability as Admin. I'd be cautious about this utility. It's a shortcut for a capability already written into OSX, and if you feel a need to change account short names, maybe you should follow the procedure outlined for using OSX 10.3. Again, if you don't know what you're doing, be leery of this utility at this stage of its development.

Accounts Enhancer Usage TipMajor problems - Version: 1.0, 3/25/2004 11:22AM PST

Tyler Weisman
I too had problems when using version 1.0 of this product. It changed my user access from administrator to user and also removed the administrator write access to my Applications folder. The program has potential, but I need to hear more that the newer versions are less problematic.

Problems downloading it. Eventually successful, but received an error message when trying to open it. Why waste our time with such pathetic implementation.

WARNING! This app is not where it should be yet. The latest version is 1.1.1. However, it will take your existing Administrator and turn it into a User. I had to reformat my entire drive! I knew better, but used it this app anyway. It is simply not to the point where it is of any use...nothing but MAJOR problems at this point in its development.
