Azureus brings the popular Java-based BitTorrent client to a new level of stability, usability, and speed. Very actively developed, this latest version includes a new split-window MyTorrents view with support for categories and advanced downloading / seeding / queuing rules for powerful and automated torrent management, a customizable user interface, seeding from read-only media, and significant reductions in resource usage.

The multiplatform Azureus client greatly extends the original python client's feature set, with: managing multiple downloads at once from a single GUI window, detailed real-time download statistics with export to XML, advanced download and seeding management rules, configuration and torrent creation wizards, embedded tracker for easy and automated hosting of your own files, PeerGuardian IP address filtering, web browser and console UIs, 27 available languages, a powerful plugin interface, and much much more.

  • DHT torrent lookup now based on sha1(hash) and torrent xfer encrypted using hash-derived key
  • More aggressive banning of peers sending bad data - algorithm change and block-banning feature
  • Support for multiple DHT networks on same port
  • Introduced "passive torrents" - these are tracked but not downloaded
  • Category setting functions added to "My Tracker"
  • Added ability to make plugin config ui components invisible
  • Average peer speed for swarm column added
  • Plugin interface extension to allow per-plugin torrent-attributes
  • Plugin ResourceDownload feature for accessing content-type
  • Improved optimistic unchoke anti-leech algorithms
  • CVS versions run multiple DHTs to permit validations of changes
  • DHT anti-spoof for cache forwards
  • DHT mechanisms for flood prevention
  • Added local tracker url to torrents when hosting external torrents
  • Hosted torrents now become "passively tracked" when their corresponding download is removed
  • More pro-active injection of DHT scrapes for torrents with failing trackers
  • More JPC plugin enhancements to help reduce cache server load
  • DHT protocol version logic fixes
  • Fix for 100% cpu when more than 60 connections are registered with a selector under buggy network stacks
  • Invalid listen port configuration would prevent Azureus from starting
  • Added hooks to catch Windows shutdown events to allow graceful Azureus exit
  • Fix for start-stopped non-simple torrents showing data-missing error on restart
  • Fix for drag-n-drop SWT exceptions blocking Azureus startup
  • Fixed up "interested" message for downloads with "do not download" files
  • Categories not being correctly displayed when torrents transit between downloading and seeding

Even though the list of fixes make it seem like it were the bee's knees, it insists on keeping the same bland and useless startup screen.

You may indeed opt out of the Vuze Toolbar. However, when installing the wording it puts up makes you think you're rejecting the EULA, instead of just opting out of the toolbar. Beware.

It still gives you the semi-blank bland and useless startup screen! Anyone know how to reset the thing?

Oh, and it also insists on installing the Vuze Toolbar on your browser, with minimal or no indications on how to opt out. Luckily, have Firefox in high security mode so that killed the highjacking attempt.

The main window just shows up as all gray, I guess I'll keep using 4.2.0.8, and to everyone who keeps saying you don't have a choice to install the toolbar, on the second screen of the installer you can uncheck the box that says "I agree to the terms and want to install the toolbar". Hope that helps and I hope this problem with the main menu is fixed soon.
