AstroViewX CommentaryProbably incompatible with MOSX below 10.3.9 - Version: 1.54, 11/2/2005 08:17PM PST

I have been unable to boot AstroView or AstroShare on Mac OS X 10.1.5 or 10.2.8. I wrote to Astroflower's tech support and heard back that the latest version of each has not yet been tested on these versions of MOSX and may indeed be incompatible. There are known issues with 10.3.x below 10.3.9. Write to them if you have similar incompatibility problems: <bugs@astroflowersoftware.com>

I paid for this so the developer can afford to put the time in to make it better, faster, leaner CPU use, nicer GUI, etc.

Hello,

Is it possible to use this program on a LAN (Mac to Win) through a Linksys Wireless Access Point Router (BEFW11S4)?

I have tried many configurations (port forwarding; IP's (local and my dynamic) to no avail.

I look forward to any comments.

Rick

AstroViewX ReviewBetter than free VNC solutions - Version: 1.39, 12/6/2004 06:19AM PST

Having used this in the office for remote connections to our servers I can safely say that this product blows away the free vnc based solutions I have tried (based on performance)

It does not use any more cpu resources that other products I have tried.

There are a couple of areas that still need polishing up like the registration process and documentation. I would also like to see the ability to scale the view to the window size like vnc thing.

Overall well worth having a look at.

AstroViewX ReviewVery Fast! - Version: 1.36, 10/21/2004 01:16PM PST

Compared to other programs like this, AstroView is very fast--almost like working at the desktop. Regarding Timbuktu ad Apple, just compare the price and ease of use and see who winds for simple desktop remote control.

AstroViewX CommentaryJust use Timbuktu - Version: 1.35 B2, 10/17/2004 06:49AM PST

I use, and love, Timbuktu: it's elegant, the new version is packed with features, it's actively worked on, and it works with Windows (although the Windows version is surprisingly dorky, usually Mac users are the ones that get the lame versions). It seems to me there is room for two programs that do this. One is Timbuktu, another is Apple Desktop Whatever-it's-called, and the third is the free open source VNC options that are out there. Seems like this isn't a category that needs serving.

AstroViewX CommentaryDoes It Work? - Version: 1.35 B2, 10/15/2004 01:44AM PST

This app sounds like a Timbuktu Pro wannabee...or a "lite" version thereof. I suppose it's worth a shot. I already own two Timbuktu Pro licenses -- one for my G4 server and another one for my G5 DP 2.5 workstation -- but I could use a third one for my PowerBook. Maybe this app will work...but it's not particularly encouraging that as of this writing (October 15, 2004) it's been on VT for nearly seven months and no one has reviewed it. Could it really be true that not one VersionTracker user has tried this app? Stand by...

Has anyone used this? How does it compare to VNC - advantages, disadvantages (besides the $20 shareware fee).

Thanks,
Robert
