Product Description:

Counteragent is an application designed specifically for use with EIMS Server X on Mac OS 10.3/10.4. Counteragent enables virus filtering by using the open source ClamAV to scan mail received by EIMS before it is delivered to local mailboxes or sent out to other servers. Counteragent will also automatically update the virus definition files so your virus protection is always up to date.

What's new in this version:

Added preferences for maximum file size to scan as well as a timeout for scanning of emails. If the email exceeds these parameters, it is passed on for delivery. Counteragent will now notify the admin when a new ClamAV installer is available on the Counteragent website. Added checks to determine if database update has stalled out due to network problems. Counteragent now starts and stops the ClamAV daemon directly - the previous StartupItem is no longer needed and has been discontinued. Changes have been made to how Counteragent watches for new messages, resulting in far less CPU usage when idle.

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.4 PPC
  • Mac OS X 10.3.9
  • Mac OS X 10.3

Additional Requirements:

  • Mac OS X 10.3.x/10.4.x
  • EIMS Server X 3.2.x

Counteragent ReviewUse EIMS? Then buy Counteragent - Version: 1.6, 12/30/2005 09:23AM PST

If you use EIMS, it is a no-brainer to buy Counteragent.

First, it's only $35! Second, it really works.

Installation is very simple and fast. It runs transparently. The virus db in ClamAV is updated automatically.

Within minutes of installation, it caught a virus. And this is after many filters had already been applied.

It also catches phishing which is probably even more prevalent than viruses.

Why Not
Millions of messages after installation, this has stopped tens of thousands of viruses. It runs exceptionally well on almost any machine, has an interface that all plug-in writers should learn from and costs practically nothing. Best money I have ever put into the mail servers here.

If you are like me and wear a lot of hats around the office and time to solve dumb user problems is not sometthing you have much to spare, then this is a product for you. If you have users (especially windows) who can't resist the tempation to open an email message from an unknown user that probably contains a virus, no matter how many times you have told them not to...then this is a product for you. Simple and easy to add to EIMS on OSX. Been running for just 2 days and already have save myself a ton of headaches and time after this product rightfully pulled 4 messages carrying virus so they wouldn't get to my users who might open them and create a mess. Using automation to take the risks of virus issues out of my users hands, and what this product has done in 2 days is worth way more then I paid for it already.
