Download is version 1.9.12 but not (!) version 1.9.13.

Handling a single rtf file of 740ko (a copy paste of an HTML table containing primarily links) makes DevonNote extremely slow (cannot do anything for a good 10 seconds)...
Good idea otherwise.

DEVONnote ReviewTop of its class - Version: 1.7.2, 10/20/2005 08:22AM PST

At $20, this has to be one of the best-value shareware programs around. I’m a professional writer and DevonNote serves as my text archive, my research hub, my writing tool and, on occasion, my surrogate brain.

It’s got all the functionality you might expect of a cutting-edge notebook program (basic outlining and word processing, wiki links, file cloning, live stats, excellent Services support, etc) then a whole lot more, including an in-built browser for taking notes from the net or storing/classifying bookmarks. More importantly, it shares the advanced AI functions of its (much pricier) big brother DevonThink, helping you classify your files and then find associations between them (read this NY Times article about DevonThink's AI functions: http://www.stevenberlinjohnson.com/movabletype/archives/000230.html).

If you work with a lot of text, you could find yourself living in this application.

Other plus points: an excellent forum, on-going development and virtually no learning curve.

Just installed it, but at least v1.6.1 has no trouble with Japanese text (in the notes or their titles). I'll have to use it more to learn enough to give it a legitimate rating.

Unfortunately, no support for double-byte text (i.e. Chinese) indexing or search. So I'll stick with Hog Bay Notebook.

I mostly use the regular DevonThink application. DevonNote is a "lightweight" version of DT. Like DT, DN is a well written application that is suitable for many users who need a simpler scrapbook manager type program. I do feel bad for all the developers of the low-end scrapbook management/notepad type programs because the King (jr) has just moved into their turf.
