this program is f-in awesome. New interface makes all the options more easily executed. Does anyone know how to shrink a dvd to fit onto a CD-r or a set of CD-r's? What program could i then burn multi-disc burn sessions then? THanks for the help!

MacTheRipper ReviewThe one to get. - Version: 2.0.2, 12/11/2004 07:57PM PST

A Nony Mouse
This is the de-facto utility for backing up your DVDs. I have trashed many a travel DVD that would otherwise have meant me going out and buying another original due to the rigors of travel and even the occasional baby attack. MacTheRipper is a "almost do it all" must-have util. Don't miss out on this one.. It works EVERY time for every title I've got in my personal collection. Thank You!!!

Using MacTheRipper in combination with Roxio Popcorn to backup my retail DVDs has worked perfectly every single time. The included PDF documentation is straight forward and the process of extraction is very easy. Major kudos to the creators of this great software!

MacTheRipper Usage TipConvert to FCP - Version: 2.0.2, 12/5/2004 10:34PM PST

Hey all, I read an earlier feedback and thought this might be helpful...

To convert a .vob file for use in Final Cut Pro:

Audio - a52dec is the program to use, it will convert the ac3 or pcm audio that is inside the vob file to an aiff you can import right into FCP. (Just look for it on versiontracker)

Video - Diva is a mpeg2 to quicktime converter (just what you need!) open the vob file and it will mainly do the rest. Make sure your codec in the video compression seetings is set up like your sequence in FCP, for example because I live in the USA, I pick DV/DVCPRO NTSC. Yours may be different. To find out what it is, in FCP go to the Sequence menu and hit settings... Its the Compressor pull down bar at the bottom.

After using a52dec, you get an aiff for the audio.

After using Diva, you get a .mov quicktime file.

Just import them into FCP and your set!

PS: DVDs are usually 23.976 Frames Per Second and FCP defaults to 29.97. So it may be necessary to open the .mov file in quicktime and export it as the same file but with 29.97 fps.

BTW, I know you can change the Frames Per Seecond on Final Cut Pro sequence settings but I have not been able to get it to work. It keeps saying "1 unrecognized file". So I find exporting the .mov file from quicktime to another .mov file but with 29.97 frames per second, it works!

I hope this helps!!

MacTheRipper Troubleshooting ReportDownload Problems - Version: 2.0.2, 11/25/2004 05:58AM PST

Is it me? I would love to give this a try but can't get it to download.
Instead of the usual .dmg icon on the desktop all I'm getting is a pageful of programming text. Obviously plenty of people HAVE managed OK, but has something gone wrong lately? If anyone else is having the same trouble (or if I'm just being an idiot and you'd like to tell me so!) please post here.

ok, so those programs will compress the video ts folder and all contents to fit on one cd? can i play the dvd off of the compressed files or would i have to move it back to the hd to watch? is there any way to have it not be a video ts folder with 22 files, can i turn that into mpg or avi? anything that would just be one file?
