Product Description:

Curio is the premier mind mapping, brainstorming, and project management application designed to promote visual thinking. Using Curio's innovative freeform interface and tools, you can intuitively gather, associate, and recall your ideas, while easily managing all the notes and documents associated with your project. Curio's extensive feature-set includes tools to help you define the goals and scope of a project, collect research and take notes, brainstorm with mind maps, outline ideas and create to-do lists, construct conceptual diagrams and flowcharts, and even sketch out designs with pressure-sensitive pens. Also includes sophisticated archiving and built-in presentation capabilities.

What's new in this version:

  • Now autowrapping text figures in a mind map at 250 pixels so you don't have to manually press return, or manually resize the text figures, to enter lots of text.
  • You can now freely resize a mind map figure and the mind map will center itself within the overall boundaries. Even if manually sized, it will automatically grow its bounds if necessary. If you want to restore automatic sizing, just select the mind map and choose Natural Size from the Geometry inspector, or simply press the N shortcut key.
  • Fixed a crash which could occur when drag-and-dropping idea spaces in the Organizer if the view was scrolled and you were in an expanded idea space subtree.
  • Fixed major layout issue with mind maps that could result in figures placed at infinity and either throwing an exception or resulting in zero sized images or incredibly thin text figures.
  • Fixed problem where, under some circumstances, editing mind maps could cause Curio to hang.
  • Assigned figure resources are now copied when idea spaces are duplicated within a project, or copied via Organizer drag-and-drop to another project.
  • Parent figures in a list or mind map no longer temporarily show inherited resource adornments when the collection is first copied. Parents simply inherit children resources but don't show their images as adornments.
  • Fixed problem with selecting and moving very thin borderless figures. And, now showing super small resize handles if the figure is really small.
  • Manually placing branches is more precise.
  • Fixed problem where pasting a graphic or doing a Snapshot when editing a list title or item caused the image to be placed incorrectly.
  • Pressing return when editing a list title will no longer inherit the title's style attributes for the newly created list item.
  • Performing a Save As with a locked Curio project file now correctly creates an unlocked version of the project file.

Curio ReviewA great app gets even better - Version: 6.0, 9/10/2009 08:53AM PST

Curio is one of my favorite applications on my MacBook. It is so versatile, I am able to use it as a scrapbook, note taker, project manager, novel organizer, brain storming, and more.

I use OneNote on my PC at work. Curio is probably the closest thing to OneNote for Mac, though it is also different in many ways. It lacks some of the power, but has additional features that ON does not.

The new version adds the very useful feature of being able to insert a table, and in the usual Zengobi way includes some wonderful new methods of making tables convenient to create and use -- just check out the way in which Cuiro will take a collection of photographs and build a table around them!

Curio 5 requires Leapord (Mac OS 10.5). Tiger is no longer supported. Too bad, but there must be a good reason to require it.

Curio has long been an innovative product, and version 5 continues to expand its capabilities as a creative organization tool. The new web views, and cross project linking are something I've wanted for a long time. The new project organization functions and iCal syncing are items I had even thought would make it in to the product any time soon, yet here they are. This is a great product which is open on my desktop all day every day, and is an excellent example of great Mac software. It isn't OmniOutliner, or OmniGraffle, or Yojimbo, or Microsoft Project, but it is an elegant combination of many of their features, and more. I'm definitely a satisfied user. Can't wait to see where they go with Curio 6.
