Product Description:

Curio is the premier mind mapping, brainstorming, and project management application designed to promote visual thinking. Using Curio's innovative freeform interface and tools, you can intuitively gather, associate, and recall your ideas, while easily managing all the notes and documents associated with your project. Curio's extensive feature-set includes tools to help you define the goals and scope of a project, collect research and take notes, brainstorm with mind maps, outline ideas and create to-do lists, construct conceptual diagrams and flowcharts, and even sketch out designs with pressure-sensitive pens. Also includes sophisticated archiving and built-in presentation capabilities.

What's new in this version:

  • Fix for typing into a fixed-width text figure and not having the next character which causes a wrap appear on the new line.
  • Fixed problem where the expanded state of an idea space hierarchy was sometimes collapsed automatically due to an unrelated operation.
  • Fixed problem copy and pasting Mail messages into Curio. They are now handled correctly although we no longer support drag-and-dropping messages from Mail as the clipboard format has changed in 10.5.2.

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.5 PPC

Curio CommentaryCrash - lost all data! - Version: 4.2.2, 3/20/2008 07:38AM PST

wds.ca (Walsh Data Systems)
With their upgrade pricing at 50% off, it seemed somewhat more reasonable to upgrade from version 3 to 4, even though the feature additions are not that compelling. I had used version 3 from time to time with some sucess on 10.4, but haven't opened it in several months.

After using the new 4.2.2 for 1/2 hr with a small doc with ink text and some box diagrams (pretty simple), the app locked up with a spinning beach ball - all was lost. Tried it again and the same thing happened.

Stay away! I'm remembering why I migrated back to pen and paper rather than using the computer for this type of brainstorming work. This product is NOT worth the price charged for it, and is unstable.

Curio ReviewI like it, and use it a LOT - Version: 4.2.2, 2/12/2008 12:00AM PST

Title says it all. I'm a graphic designer and I love this program. I find it very useful at work, and at home.
I really could care less if someone else likes it, loves it, or hates it. BTW ... I could care less if it did MIND MAPPING or not! If you want to do MIND MAPPING ... do it in private or keep it to yourself, LOL. Sounds like some kind of body snatching thing anyway. JK ... chill out ... I'm not serious. I don't use mind mapping.

Seriously, I love the program. I was not happy with the upgrade price and probably could have lived with 3.x ... but heck ... I like these guys, and MAYBE THEY WILL GET A CLUE ... IT'S TOO EXPENSIVE! Hope you're listening. My boss was totally disappointed with the cost ... much less paying for me to upgrade. I bought it myself [that's one out of five people who MIGHT have purchased it if it wouldn't have cost of over $650 bucks!), because I FIND IT USEFUL. Nuff said.

It works WELL, it's stable, and does a lot of things that are pretty dang cool. Love it, or leave it alone.
4 stars ... because it's [rrrrr] expensive.

Curio CommentaryNot the premiere Mind-mapping application - Version: 4.2, 1/9/2008 02:37PM PST

This is a response to the developer's claims, rather than to the product.

Curio may be very good, but the claim that it is the 'premiere mind mapping…' application is simply wrong. Mind Mapping is a well-defined concept developed by Tony Buzan. There are a number of applications out there which implement it properly, but Curio, which only features straight lines (not curved) and forces you to write on the symbols rather than on the lines themselves, is not one of them. NovaMind and Inspiration are both better implementations of Mind Mapping.

It's also not the premiere project management tool. Project Management is also a well-defined concept. Download Merlin if you want to see what a real project management tool looks like. Essential features of project management include Gantt charts and PERT diagrams.

This may well be amazing software for what it does -- but, at least based on the features and specifications on the developer's site, it doesn't do full-blown mind-mapping or project management.

Sorry.
