Disk Order ReviewDO saves my life! - Version: 3.0, 5/27/2009 02:48AM PST

I've been using Disk Order for a while not as often as Finder, I just don't like two panel file managers, but every day I have to go back to it when some problem appears, for instance somehow our wifi router resets when copying big files over network, so after every 400-600 Mb copying stops and is not restored, I have no idea what's wrong with it and the only way is to burn DVD if we wanted files on another computer... Disk Order has magical button "pause" while copying so I just can pause copying for 1 second after every 400 Mb
Also it's much easier to edit hidden files, search for non-default types files without using terminal or quickly see files in hex (need for programming).
Slowly but surely I move from Finder to DO.

Disk Order ReviewMy reconsideration - Version: 2.5.1, 10/27/2007 09:28PM PST

My initial "review" - comparing it to ForkLift - was a bit hasty, and I think I should back up my words more. I initially had frustrations with Disk Order because of lack of any response from the company. I don't think that's changed. However, I've now had time to try out both DO and ForkLift and find I prefer DiskOrder for several reasons. First, the tab feature is more practical, and the program remembers tabs upon restart. (ForkLift does not.) Second, DO provides me with a range of view options, including the ability to show disclosure arrows if I want. (ForkLift does not.)

That being said, there are a few features I would like to see added to DO, such as the ability to use a command key to go up one level, rather than having to click the curved arrow. I'd also like to be able to turn off the "Show Size" option.

Overall, though, I would say that DO provides a few more bells and whistles than ForkLift currently offers. We'll have to see how the latter evolves over time. I'll also be curious to see if DO upgrades to Leopard. (I won't be using Leopard, so it's not an issue to me. But it will obviously impact their sales potential.)

One other thing. If you opt to compare both programs, I do not recommend that you open them both at once. For some reason, when I do that, then when I restart I get some very odd visual distortion on my screen. (Another restart clears that out.) Neither program alone seems to cause this; it seems to be some weird interaction between the two of them.

Wow... Disk Order is still alive! Some great improvements, fixed 'Intel bugs' and some very cool new features. Very nice surprise, because I thought this app is already dead...
Now, let's hope for more frequent updates and better customer support...
... and btw, the new app icon looks cool!

Well, DiskOrder posted version 2.5 today (on a different site). And ForkLift is also available. Compare the two, including customer service. You'll quickly make the correct choice.

I regularly check for updates, but no luck, though there are too many bugs in the latest release.
Seems dead.
There is a new hope called Forklift but it is not out yet, screenshots seem promissing. We will see..

Disk Order ReviewNo license problem - Version: 2.3.5, 1/26/2007 12:23PM PST

drtimothyjames
Well, I just purchased a license less than an hour ago and had no problems. Prior to doing so, I contacted eSellerate to find out who provides the serial number. They said that they do, and that was the case. I received my serial number immediately, and everything works.

As for customer service, that does, indeed, appear to be dead. I went into this purchase knowing full well that this product might never again be updated and that I will never receive help. But I liked the program, and it's at least been stable on my system. (PB G4, 10.4.8) I tried muCommander and XFolders, and while both are fine, free alternatives, DiskOrder provided me with some customization options that I preferred.

I realize that the Finder is fine; and in fact, there are things that I cannot do with DiskOrder that I must do with the Finder. But for my overall way of working with my Mac, DiskOrder did the job. It would be nice if they would keep working on this program and provide feedback to e-mail inquiries, but I'm not holding my breath. (I tried e-mailing them and received what now appears to be the standard "Mail box full" message.)

Anyway, in my experience, if you want a license for this, it did not appear to be a problem.

Disk Order CommentaryHmm... - Version: 2.3.5, 1/25/2007 05:36PM PST

It's already 7 months I posted a complimentary comment on this product. But now it looks like this software is dead. No support (I can't remember how many times I emailed various bug reports, questions, etc..), no updates, nothing... And I still hear from people who paid for a license, but never received the key... Well, maybe it's time to move to another app... Thumbs down Likemac.ru :(

Disk Order CommentaryMailbox is full - Version: 2.3.5, 1/10/2007 12:53AM PST

I downloaded the software and it seems to be the right for me, so I tried to buy a licence. I didn't receive any notice and the mailbox of support@likemac.ru is full, so I can't even report this.

A pitty!

Disk Order ReviewProblems and no support - Version: 2.3.5, 10/7/2006 07:13AM PST

-The Norton Commander-selection with space-bar does not work at all.
-The mouse-selection seem to work at first but then all files in the directory got deleted instead of only the two selected.

This makes Disc Order useless, or at least the intel-version.
No reply at all from support. Cannot recommend paying for this at this point.
