Product Description:

With iCrypt you will be able to crypt your data using an AES algorithm with 256bits encryption. Just drag and drop files or folders on iCrypt to encrypt or decrypt them. Use on Mac OS X is really easy, moreover selfdecrypting files allow you to exchange your data even if your recipient has not installed iCrypt. Unix compatibility is also provided by the use of ccrypt. This encrypting method is really strong and secure so could be illegal in some countries. Use it in appliance of your local laws.

Main features:

  • Allows encrypting of files and folders
  • Folders are compressed via the "tar" command automagically before being encrypted for space saving and maximum security
  • Various settings are available (and Preferences-settable) like removing the source file after encrypting
  • You can make self-decrypting files with just one click, which you can share with any Mac OS X user and he will be able to open it without the iCrypt application itself
  • The files created do not have a resource fork, so you can happily share the files via the internet without any loss of data

iCrypt Reviewdeleted my entire journal - Version: 1.2, 7/22/2006 09:33AM PST

be VERY CAREFUL using this software. When I was encrypting a folder with all my personal journal files, IT DELETED THE ENTIRE FOLODER after telling me there was an error with the encryption process. I was trying to make it a self-encrypting file and I ticked the box to "delete original" -- all perfectly fine choices IMO. But instead of protecting my files from prying eyes I've now made that no one will ever see my most intimate thoughts, including me. I'll have to be philosophical about this unless someone can suggest a way to recover them, but just in case you try and do this yourself, PLEASE BE CAREFUL and back it up somewhere first.

iCrypt ReviewThis is a great tool... - Version: 1.2, 3/6/2005 09:14PM PST

When a developer creates a small, easy-to-use app like this, oftentimes a few cynics jump in with "...you can do the same thing using Terminal with just a couple of simple ccommands" or "...there's this way to do this, and it's free, or that way, or whatever".

Yes, one could use Disk Utility to create encrypted Disk Image, for free even, and maybe one could use Cypher (if you could figure out which one to use, or even find the right one; neither have been updated in over 2 years).

But, this app does a wonderfully-easy-to-do encryption with the option to create a self-decrypting file or one that will be manually decrypted. And, it encrypts folders as well as single files using a very clean and simple interface.

A nice app to have when you want to do a quick encryption and it has the coolest icon!! Heck, the icon alone is worth the shareware fee (and you get a great app with it!)

iCrypt CommentaryWhat about Disk Copy - Version: 1.1, 1/23/2005 10:04AM PST

I use the Disk Copy utility (which comes free with osX since 1.0) to create dmg files with 128 bits encryption, and it works flawless. What does iCrypt (that I have to buy) have more than Disk Copy?
