Apple Graphics Driver Update CommentaryFiles replaced by updater - Version: 1.0, 4/28/2007 05:01PM PST

The updater changes three files: mp2decvbin1, mp2decvbin2, and mp2decvbin3. They are part of the Contents/Resources of the "mp2decv.bundle" inside System/Library/Extensions, along with the AppleAltiVecDVDDriver which is not changed. "AltiVec" is the brand name for the proprietary acceleration of the G4 and G5 processors. Info as to the exact function of the 3 files is not shared outside Apple since it is part of Apple's OS X implementation of UNIX. We can only assume this is a bug fix although the exact nature and frequency of the bug is not disclosed. Apple doesn't like to discuss bugs that they think are not serious.

Apple Graphics Driver Update CommentaryWhat does it fix? - Version: 1.0, 2/10/2004 04:07PM PST

As with others, I would like to know what this fixes: specifically, what problem(s) with the DVD Player app are supposed to occur, that will not occur after this is installed? The only "problem" I have noticed on my machine [G4-450, DVD-RAM drive] is that DVD Player will not play in slow motion at 1/8 speed (1/2 and 1/4 speed are fine) without dropping a few frames; otherwise, it works fine. Is that the problem this fixes, or (as claimed below) is this only going to reverse any "hacks" I may have applied to my DVD drive? (For what it's worth, I have not hacked my drive.) Am I simply not experiencing the problems this fixes? robopope, perhaps you could elaborate on what "real trouble" you were having before so that others can compare their experiences with yours.

At least it did for me. My DVD Player apps works perfectly now. Had real trouble before. Just FYI.
