Product Description:

Jon's Phone Tool (JPT) is a versatile phone dialer for Macintosh.

Apple provided you with a digital hub. With JPT you can finally add your phone to the party. And we're not just talking about your Bluetooth mobile (though that's a good start). Prefer to use your landline? OK. How about Vonage, CallVantage, Speakeasy.net VoIP, BroadVoice VoIP, Skype, IP phones from Cisco or Snom, softphones from the Gizmo Project, CounterPath, LoudHush, JackenIAX, MegaFon, or ohphoneX, advanced telephony solutions such as Phlink, PhoneValet, or Fritz!Box? No problem. Are you getting the picture? JPT is versatile!

You can enter a phone number manually or you can use the integrated search tools to find numbers in your Address Book, Marketcircle Daylite, Microsoft Entourage, Now Contact, or Palm Desktop databases. You can also search various websites and with the included contextual menu and services, you can even select a number just about anywhere and instantly dial it using JPT.

JPT also has extensive AppleScript support, Bonjour notifications, caller ID, a call log, a notepad, and call timers as well as a fun and unique interface.

Jon's Phone Tool CommentaryLeopard-compatible product (Dialectic) is now released - Version: 3.7.2, 4/8/2008 09:38AM PST

pg99
The developer of JPT has just released his new, Leopard-compatible dialer app - Dialectic: http://www.jonn8.com/dialectic/ . Completely rewritten, lots of new features, launches faster, better sharing of modem with other programs, caller id support, etc. As with any rewrite of this magnitude, there are likely still some bugs, so be sure to try with your configuration before you buy, as the developer (Jon) recommends. But, Jon has a good track record for support - definitely contact him if you run into any problems. I definitely am happy with the new version.

Jon's Phone Tool Usage TipUsing JPT to dial via JaJah - Version: 3.7.2, 1/22/2008 12:00AM PST

Pelen
JaJah isn't mentioned in JPT's help facility, so I contacted the author.

If you would like to use JPT with JaJah, please find below details of how to do so. Most of the instructions are from the Jon Nathan [whom I have found always to be VERY responsive BTW]; I tweaked the URL to get the country code to work. This assumes the phone number are in your Address Book and formatted +country code-area code-number (the + is optional but good practice if you sync your Address Book to your mobiles...)

First, in the
URL Dial Method settings, configure it like so:

URL: http://www.jajah.com/members/?d=%2b%#
Contact Name Encoding: None
Call URL: Using Default Browser

Next, in your Dialing Rules, set the Dial Method for each call type (e.g.,
Local, Long Distance, etc.) to use the URL Dial Method. Also make sure that
you leave the prefix for the long distance or local calls blank (e.g., don't
include "1" or any other character).

When you dial a number with JPT now, the JAJAH site should open in your
default web browser with the number you are dialing inserted in the form.

For more information (on the URL feature, not use with JaJah), please see the JPT documentation:

<http://www.jonn8.com/jpt/ug/dm_url.html>

PS: I also use JPT to dial using GizmoProject, which also requires the use of the URL feature in JPT. Having to manually type in the URL string when changing from GIZMO to JAJAH is a pain. I raised this with the author. The next version of JPT (DIALECTIC) will allow multiple URL preferences to be stored and used in any combination with the Dial Methods.

Jon's Phone Tool ReviewWorks great with Broadvoice and Apple USB Modem - Version: 3.7.2, 6/10/2007 11:59AM PST

This new version works great with my Broadvoice service. I also have an Apple external USB Modem and they work well together. The developer is also very good about getting back to you with any questions or concerns. Well worth the money!
