I've been meaning to figure out how to install the bare minimum to the internal drive and the expansion packs to an external drive. This way, my powerbook will actually launch GB when I don't have my big drive available.

at last someone who has done a great job. I started to use Dhos_Garageband since its first release and had several problems with the Terminal commando's. I just wrote the developper of this program and he assisted me step by step to make it work. Now he has developped version two wich work great for me and my son in law. Its worth to pay for this program but the developper just want to help other Mac Users with Garageband. Thanks a trillion times again and i hope that you will developpe more of this super utillities in the future. Apple can use people like you.

If you do have the space and you've already installed GarageBand but want the biggest files of Garageband on a faster Hard Drive... In this case, does it make more sense to just move those files to the faster drive and use symbolic links instead of using this thing?

Hi, I am David The creator of Dhos_garage

Not much really needs to be done for you. All you need to do is delete /Applications/GarageBand, /Libarary/Application Support/Garageband, and /Library/Receipts/Garagebandapp.pkg and you should be fine. All that is necasary then is to follow the readme that come with dhos_garage.

Just remember that if GarageBand is installed on an external drive and then brought to annother computer, that new computer must be linked to the new drive in order for garageband to work. Luckly a link from a new computer wont destroy an old link, so that once the links are in place you can swap the drive between the computers seamlessly!

Good luck :)

Not only does this work well, but it's easy, saves space on the internal drive, and boosts Garage Band performance significantly.

This is really appreciated, thanks.
