Tenon iTools ReviewCounterpoint.... - Version: 8.2.2, 3/30/2007 02:39PM PST

ITools is a blessing; it worked flawlessly for me; it doesn't suck.

ITools is well respected, and pretty much takes the pain out of installing Apache, PHP and MySQL. Sure, if you're already running these items, and you have years of accumulated versions laying around your hard drive, installing a new version on top of the old grabage is likely to cause problems. Whose fault is that?

The product and the customer service is first rate. (And, if you can configure Apache in your sleep, why on earth would you even be interested in this product? Why do I get the feeling that some of the reviewers below have some other axe to grind?)

Like hundreds, or even thousands of others, I found iTools to be worth every penny.

When iTools is installed it backs up some critical Mac OS X files so that it can control the included Apache 2.2.2 web server. If you decide to uninstall, you must run the Uninstaller (on the download page) to restore your OS to its original condition.

And if you have any issues whatsoever, please talk to Tenon. We're here to help!

Incredible. Also my Mac got f'ed up, even though all I did was install the Trial, and after 5 mins, right after realizing how unnecessairy and useless this product is, uninstall using their uninstaller.

webmin at http://www.webmin.com does much more, wont f your machine and - guess, what: it is for free!

iTools is a malicious rip off. Dont use it, dont try it, never buy it, dont even use it in case you get if for free!

I use the Macintosh since 20 years, but such a thing never occured to me.

I've used iTools & it's previous incarnation WebTen for quite some years now - it's been pretty much rock solid for us. The latest version (7.3) as I write this is the best yet & also the most stable. Earlier versions had quirks, but there's a lot to gain.

I can only conclude that people who have had bad experiences have not followed instructions or sought the right advice. iTools is professional quality serving software for professional admins - there are heaps of tools available which do similar things, but with nowhere near as much ease or as painless. For us, iTools has saved us loads of heartache & headaches.

Tenon iTools CommentaryBeware the Demo! - Version: 7.3, 5/20/2004 06:33PM PST

After installing the Demo, I had to call Tenon for help uninstalling it from my laptop. I had to, since the "Uninstaller" app that I downloaded is useless on its own - wanting to uninstall lots of things it has nothing to do with.

I then shut down, and took my Titanium Powerbook home, only to later discover that it would not boot-up.

ITools killed my laptop!

While trying to boot, the progress bar passed through all the usual stuff, but at the end, when it got to launching Login Services, it got stuck there and never would get through that final step.

After trying for the better part of the evening to repair the problem - by deleting the login prefs, running tech tool pro, and numerous restarts (including a "Safe" boot) I was forced to:

1. Backup the entire hard drive to a second drive using Safe Disk mode.
2. Wipe the TiBook's hard drive from my desktop Mac.
3. Re-install the backed up drive contents.
4. Do an "Archive" install of OSX 10.3.
5. Download all the updates.
6. Move my "Previous System"'s main & user Library folders in, over the new clean system.
7. Run disk utility to fix ownerships.
8. And enter a ton of registration codes.
9. Not to mention all the testing I had to do after all this was done.

A real pain in the patutie!

No one got back to me regarding my question on how to regain all the control which is lost after iTools disables the System Prefs:Sharing control panel either.

Excuse me for stating the obvious, but this is bad news, yes?
How can anyone trust their software on their precious servers?

BEWARE!

I was looking for software to setup virtual servers on Mac OS X server 10.2.8. This product looked like the hands down winner. I downloaded the trail and installed it. I set up two virtual servers. When I navigated to one of them the first time after set up, it seemed to be working. Then I tried navigating to the other site, I got a browser error that it could not connect. I then retried the first, it no longer worked either. I deleted both servers and tried again. Same results. Having now spent several long hours attempting to get this to work, I gave up and ran the "uninstaller" It looked like it ran just fine. I rebooted and then tried to restart the OS X Apache server. It no longer will start up. Along with this, I have an FTP error state "undeterminate state". Thanks tenon, looks like its time to reinstall my server. I am sure my customers will understand.

I downloaded the Tria version....Thanks God i didnt wast a cent on the crap. After installing The system was having responce issues and slowed way down. Nothing Worked properly anymore. So i figure ill just remove it and be on my way...So i thought. After going deep into there site I found removel instructions. They claim no time to creat remoal script. I think they may not know how. So I follow the Directioons to a T. Then i realize there directions were wrong. They didnt even list the proper default instilation directory. So again I atempt to uninstall. This time it works. BUT not the system services like WWW and Mail FTP. They warn about how to uninstall on there site and that if you just trash the folder your screwed. This was not the case here. I would like to change to that statement to If you install your screwed. So im reinstalling My OS now. There Tech Support failed to answer the phone. Suprise Suprise there probably hiding. Stay away from Tenon Products at all costs. By they way they is my first review here and I only registered to warn about Tenon Products.

Tenon iTools ReviewI thought the command line was agony - Version: 7.2, 1/26/2004 01:00PM PST

iTools takes the cake for buggy applications. What an evil mess I've gotten myself into using this. I am so ashamed I spent money on this. Nothing but crashes in Panther. In the time I spent on trying to get iTools to work, I figured out how to configure Apache, FTP, MySQL, PHP manually thanks to Marc Liyanage --> http://www.entropy.ch/software/macosx/.
