Keyword Assistant CommentaryProblems with Media browser? - Version: 1.9.4, 4/11/2007 11:18AM PST

chip.roberson
I love Keyword Assistant as it is truly a missing piece of iPhoto. However, I noticed a while back that ComicLife can't see my photos after I've used KA. I had to wipe out a plist file or something like that to get it work but then I lost all my keyword asignments.

I just upgraded to 1.9.4, added some photos, assigned some keywords and then attempted to use iWeb to create a web page with photos and the media browser in there can fine my audio files and my movies but it can't find my photos.

I haven't figured out how to resolve this but it is something one should consider before using KA. I can't say for certain that this is due to KA and I still highly recommend KA. If anyone can figure out how to resolve this, please post it here.

Thanks to the author for updating this so promptly after iPhoto's latest update -- I was extremely frustrated without being able to use Keyword Assistant -- it is Absolutely Necessary when dealing with multiple thousands of images! Thanks, again

Keyword Assistant ReviewSimply Invaluable. - Version: 1.9.2, 9/15/2006 03:48PM PST

iPhoto keyword functionality is essentially broken without this. This is the most useful iPhoto plugin I have ever encountered, and now it is finally Universal.

Keyword Assistant Usage TipiPhoto using Rosetta - Version: 1.9.1, 8/22/2006 04:32AM PST

There is a way to launch iPhoto using Rosetta and use the Keyword Assistant plugin. I currently do it on a regular basis. I'm pretty sure it was posted here too a while back.

Make a copy of iPhoto, right-click the new copy and show its contents. Open up the info.plist file in Text Edit and delete the line stating:

<key>LSRequiresNativeExecution</key>
<true/>

After saving (this part might not be necessary, but the article I read said to do it) use Disk Utility to repair disk permissions. Then restart the computer. If after restarting, it still doesn't give you the option to open in Rosetta (which it didn't for me), moving it to another location and then moving it back to the Applications folder works. Not sure why. Anyway, I was able to manually install the plugin and fix the version thing and now I can use it in iPhoto under Rosetta.

Keyword Assistant Commentarydoes not run under Rosetta - Version: 1.9.1, 8/16/2006 01:51PM PST

Mengoxon Plus
The developer states that it's possible to run Keyword Assistant on Intel machines by running under Rosetta. Unlike Safari, iPhoto can not be run under Rosetta, there is no "Open using Rosetta" checkbox in the Get Info window. So Keyword Assistant does currently not run on Intel machines.

I'm currently using iPhoto Keyword Tool on my Intel Mac but compared to Keyword Assistant, it has several disadvantages:
1. It is case sensitive: If I type "a", it won't bring up Andy as keyword
2. It does not learn your preferred order: It always goes by alphabet. So if I type "A", it always brings up Aardvark as keyword, even if I look for keyword Andy all the time.
BTW this software is the most essential iPhoto plugin and made me start using keywords, but if it does not work... :-(

Keyword Assistant ReviewPoor Update Record-Very Disappointing - Version: 1.9.1, 8/15/2006 09:39AM PST

The updates lag way behind the updates of iPhoto, so there are long periods of time that Keyword Assistant is useless. Maybe I shouldn't complain since its free. I would pay for this software it the updates we timely.

Keyword Assistant Troubleshooting ReportFix: compatibility with the current version of iPhoto - Version: 1.9.1, 6/30/2006 05:55PM PST

I love Keyword Assistant but it's in need of at least a small update. I do feel for the Intel Mac crowd out there. But even for us dark ages PPC people, we've seen two iPhoto updates and nary an update for KA (note to Ken Ferry, please don't abandon us). I was sick of not having the full KA feature set so I decided to hack around and I figured out how to very simply turn the features back on. Can't promise you it's a good idea but if you're a little adventurous, here's how:

Quit iPhoto -- Find your iPhoto application -- Control-click and choose Show Package Contents -- Drill through the following directories: Contents:NetServices:Bundles:KeywordAssistant.NetService:Contents:MacOS
Open KeywordAssistant in your favorite text editor (I like Smultron). Search for the phrase: "WarnForiPhotoVersionsAbove" and change the version number that immediately follows to something that corresponds to your current version of iPhoto -- Good luck.
