Someone up there in EPSON? Hey!! We're here! We bought the scanner, I didn't "borrow" it!

It creates a utility that makes it possible to use the scanner just like a copy machine. Works fine on my Imac running the latest Panther update
Epson Smart Panel - Version: 2.16A, 2/6/2004 01:07PM PST

My first scanner was a Epson 1240U, I installed their software on my iMac DV w/ OS 9.2 and tried using Smart Panel. It worked about 4 times, then progressively lost function. Patches never helped. The OCR never did work "as advertised." Two years later -- I see other Epson scanner buyers having the same disappointments with Smart Panel.
Though less convenient and STILL lacking anyway to use OCR, I do find the scanner works fine with Adobe PhotoShop and GraphicConverter (latest version).
This is OK, but like everyone else, I think Epson (and other companies) would do well to just DROP such crippleware instead of advertizing it as a useful product feature.
