DVDpedia ReviewGreat application - Version: 4.5.3, 9/17/2009 02:46PM PST

tobyb--2008
After using DVD Cache for years, and receiving excellent support, the program broke under Snow Leopard. Several attempts to contact them resulted in no response. I did some research and found DVDpedia. My inquiry as to compatibility with Snow Leopard and whether it could import the database from DVD Cache was answered in three minutes! Answer to both questions was yes!
I downloaded the program and within 2 minutes had my entire database, posters and all, imported into DVDpedia. Much better program than DVD Cache!

DVDpedia ReviewGreat Program - Version: 4.5.2, 8/25/2009 09:11AM PST

Great Program. I also synch my catalog with several Macs using DropBox and sync to my iPhone with DVDPedia. I used DVDAttache for a few years and imported most data without having to reenter. I compared quite a few before switching.

DVDpedia CommentaryJust what I am looking for - Version: 4.4.3, 4/12/2009 10:02PM PST

My collection is getting too big for the shelf, so was wanting a system that would allow me to file and catalogue discs in sleeves, in file boxes. DVDpaedia allows me to download info from imdb and print it in a size that fits in a sleeve. Awesome!! Can you you believe I started looking just when this version is released.

DVDpedia ReviewGood software, useful and fun, never had a problem - Version: 4.3.2, 10/25/2008 09:17PM PST

I've been using it for months and I find it very useful. It can be configured in detail and has many options for export and visualization. Drag and drop is fully functional, as you expect in mac programs.

Just to look for perfection, the major criticism is lack of "hypertextuality": it would be nice to click on an actor (director, writer, ...) and have an immediate filter. Of course this can be done with the search box, but you have to write it again, or copy/paste, and the search is full text, and frequently includes unwanted results. At least, a right-click search would help.

DVDpedia ReviewFar and away the best... - Version: 4.3.0, 8/20/2008 02:55PM PST

And I'm referring not only to this title from Bruji, but all the "pedia" series.

I've been using this for quite some time though I've tried others from time to time to see how they hold up. Bento is a nice all-around database and does many things well. Delicious Library looks more like a dollop of eye candy so I didn't really put it through its paces. Librarian Pro looked like a keeper and I bought a license. However, when my license got corrupted, the hoops I had to jump through to get Librarian reregistered were extremely cavalier and make the whole Microsoft process a walk in the park in comparison. I wound up trashing Librarian after getting no real answers from the author over a period of three days. Librarian support is a totally User Hostile environment.

I have had a number of opportunities to chat with Bruiji via email and I cannot state enthusiastically enough how responsive and helpful they are with advice, tips, problem resolution and general helpfulness.

I especially like the flexibility in "exporting" my list of DVDs - as a printed list, as a PDF, as an HTML page via FTP or dot mac, upload to itunes, whatever, you can do it and do it attractively.

DVDpedia ReviewExcellent software, needs better documentation - Version: 4.3.0, 8/17/2008 09:24AM PST

The entire ..pedia series of software is excellent. Beautifully designed, constantly kept up to date, and the authors are very responsive to requests and help questions.

My only quibble is with documentation. The authors keep adding features, but you're never really told that they exist or how to use them. Online help is a bit disorganized. They need to get someone outside the company to objectively redesign the help, since obviously the authors are too close to the software to be objective.

Example: I'd love to be able to tweak the design of the box label printouts, but I can't find anything online that explains how.

But as I say, this is excellent software overall, and one of the best bargains anywhere.

One more thing: anyone know where Bruji is located? They seem very careful not to reveal where on the globe they are based. Just curious!

Now my MBP iSight works like a champ. I may even get rid of my CueCat.

The best DVD cataloger just got better.

The items on my request checklist are being addressed one by one. The only remaining important ones to me are nested box set handling and more graceful multiple genre handling and it'll be perfect.

Thanks Connor and Nora!

DVDpedia ReviewSplendid! - Version: 4.2.0, 4/4/2008 06:55AM PST

This is a really splendid program and the support is wonderful -- but I was unable to add the credits for a manual addition in 4.2.0 and had to go back to 4.1.3. This small glitch notwithstanding, DVDPedia is one of my favourite programs.

DVDpedia ReviewBest product and support - Version: 4.1.3, 3/7/2008 12:31AM PST

It's a great application. I'm using it over a year and it worths every penny.
User Interface and usability are as a great mac-product should be.
I got to mention that it is insanely easy to create a custom CSV export for my web-based movie database and much more.

Few days ago I got a message that I reached the maximum machines installed (I got 3 macs) and purchased a new license right away. After that I asked support details about licensing without complaining about buying a new license.
They got back to me with answers, expanding my old SN for more machines and refund my money back because as they said "there was no need for me to buy a new license".

Over all, I believe that DVDPedia gives a total mac-experience program.

I waited forever for "Delicious Library" to be updated and finally bought this instead. Shouldn't have waited for so long: This is a brilliant application, with lots of different options/sources for information import and huge variety of export templates. Neat!
