Product Description:

Simple app and AppleScript allows users to convert files from one QuickTime recognizable format to another. Note that with the newer versions of the QuickTime libraries, QTConvert can no longer convert from the protected AAC format to other non protected formats.

What's new in this version:

Changes for this version:

  • New icon (many thanks to user Jonathan Barnette)
  • Bug fix: formats with filename extensions of less than 4 characters no longer have a space appended to the name (messing up Finder's ability to launch them with a double click)
  • Compatibility: Should have 10.2.8 compatibility now, though it still requires the latest QuickTime updates

I'm still working on meta tag copying.

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.3

Additional Requirements:

  • Only tested on Mac OS X 10.3.2. Possibly works on Mac OS X 10.2.8 with QuickTime 6.4

QTConvert ReviewDoes what it says - Version: 1.3, 2/10/2004 01:20PM PST

It does what it says, but don't expect to be able to "strip" iTunes Music Store tracks of their DRM protection without a big loss in quality. The only way I can tell to do it without loss is to make it an AIFF, but in order to make it small again, you then have to re-compress it into an AAC, which kills the sound quality.

But then again, this product is free, and it worked as advertised, so I can't complain. Just FYI.

QTConvert CommentaryMP3 comment would be great! - Version: 1.2, 2/5/2004 07:19PM PST

ESPECIALLY if I could do LAME --alt-preset standard encodings directly.
Also, to encode the file to an .m4a file, would I need a codec for that as well? Or can I export to MPEG-4 with the proper settings and change the file name?
Oh and I also would like the tags to stay through the conversion process. And I'm looking forward to batch support!

QTConvert Reviewwould love to see .m4b support - Version: 1.2, 2/5/2004 06:02PM PST

I saw an earlier message regarding .aa files, and this is probably in the same category. I'd love to see .m4b support which is the format of the audiobooks on the iTMS.
