Twilight Mahjongg CommentaryREAL MAHJONG PLEASE!!!!!! - Version: 1.0, 6/25/2005 06:38AM PST

Aren't there any Chinese programmers who know the real game of Mahjong??????

These match games are not classic Mahjong!! I have seen only one classic Mahjong for Mac and they no longer make it. It was called Shanghai Dynasty. Can't anyone make and up to date version of that?? It was very good!!

Had anyone bothered to study the history of this so-called "Mahjongg" game, he would see that it has little to do with simple tile matching. Do us all a favor, all you Mac board game programmers, and read through this page.

http://home.halden.net/vkp/vkp/history.html

We already have Shanghai. We don't need the 100000th version, ad nausea. Not even with cute little vanishing effect or tile-matching to the tune of whatever MOD, MIDI or MP3 music. Any Mac game programmer looking to extend the life of this ancient 20-year-old game, I implore you, study some OpenGL and actually make it into full 3D. It's what more processing power is supposed to do to games on the Mac. There's been a 3D Shanghai for Windows (called Kyodai) for, what, 6 years? And the programmer also made the inexcusable mistake of calling it Mahjongg, which it is not.

And last but not least, get this right. Mahjongg is a game played by 4 housewives. Not one. Not two. Not three. Four! It's been played that way for many centuries in China.

Another match-em-up game. Doesn't any of these software developers understand that Mahjongg is more than just tile matching? Is it so difficult to code the real game that no one knows how to do it? There was a game for OS 9, how come no one will do it for OS X? Until someone does, I'm not spending any money on another match game.
