Product Description:

Unison is a carefully-crafted, genuinely revolutionary Mac OS X Usenet newsreader. It offers all the expected newsreader functionality: easy-to-navigate threaded discussions, the ability to ignore annoying posters, multiple signature management, and easy, Mail-like posting with spell checking and all the trimmings.

But it also goes much, much further than any other Usenet client on earth, starting with a unique four-view interface that lets you view and work with Usenet group content in four distinct styles: messages, files, images, or music. It lets you preview MP3 files directly off a Usenet server, view images in an elegant iPhoto-like thumbnail view, prioritize transfers with a flexible downloads manager, find favorites quickly with a categorized column-view interface, smartly group files into meta-groups (like songs into albums), show download status beautifully in the dock, and much more. Phew!

What's new in this version:

  • Fixed PPC hanging and instability issues, due to a compiler bug
  • Improved database performance
  • Fixed some hanging issues on slower machines
  • Fixed occasional crash changing password in server prefs

  • If operation queue can't connect to the server and the error is retry-able, we now re-queue operation and try 30 seconds later

  • Number bubbles are now grey when app is inactive

Unison CommentaryGetting better and more stable - Version: 2.0.3, 1/23/2010 10:43AM PST

Use it now for a good number of hours (V2.02/2.03), really REALLY like it so far.
No big issues, in fact one 1 issue seems a problem. Close the app, reopen it and the links might be damaged even when save and quit.
Again, nothing better on MAC by far !
Great work guys.

Unison CommentaryUnison 2.0.2 - Version: 2.0.2, 1/19/2010 04:15PM PST

Much better than previous version.

Launches faster and updates faster as well. It may be that I have too many high volume newsgroups, but the initial download of headers took forever, I would have been more patient had I known where to go to find that information - the downloads window shows hears downloading - good, but the lack of documentation hurt.

Now that I have (mostly?) figured out how to use it and have 'primed' it, things are much better. Stability is a bit of a problem though.

I have used other newsgroup readers and they are too techie for me - and I have 30+ semester hours in computer programming.

Unison ReviewTry again Panic. Still Doesn't work - Version: 2.0.2, 1/19/2010 02:28PM PST

Have tried to evaluate this over and over. 2.0.2 still does the same things. Gets stuck at "grouping" and then it locks the whole thing up from loading any groups or downloads. When you try to stop or switch to another group it beach balls and has to be force quit.

So I tried removing the Library Applications support folder and the .plist and setting the app back to default. Now it is completely unusable. When I click "I already have a usenet server" it simply does nothing. Preferences will not open. Clicking "Edit Servers" opens the about window.

I have no clue what your developers are doing but every time you "fix" this it seems to get even worse.
