I'm always up for trying freeware and this game lets you play Dope Wars pretty well. Its pretty simple in its interface and could use some more bells and whistles but for a game that isn't even 1.0 yet, great work.

There is an other version of Dope Wars (X, which is a better version), but this one is simple and FREE, which is a very good price. Because SOME people didn't actually try the game before rating it poorly, I'll give it an extra star to try to make up for it.

This is not the same version that is a shareware. This is more of a direct port, so it seems. all the better though.

Install X11,SDK11, Devealoper Tools,then Fink,then the Fink Commander. Choose Dope Wars in the Commander. Click the binary install. Launch X11 terminal. Type Dope Wars. Voila!!! You have Dope Wars! (And it is a great app!)

Likely Software has this market pretty much cornered.

I thought this was a new version of an application by the same name produced by Likely Software. It's not. While I like the brushed metal appearance, the Likely Software version is far better. This version lacks a price range sheet and sports a less mature GUI. Also I found it odd that it's listed as "Freeware," but has a "29 days remaining" warning on the minimalistic main screen.
My conclusion? Neither version can hold my attention for more than a maximum of an hour of gameplay every six months, but my recommendation lies with the "Dope Wars" game by Likely Software. Seek it out if you're really interested in trying this game.
