Apple Security Update CommentaryCommentary is meaningless - Version: 2008-002, 3/19/2008 07:14AM PST

In view of the fact that this is 2008, having commentary that is from 2005 and 2006 is REALLY without merit. It accomplishes NOTHING!

Apple's web site indicated this Security Update 2008-002 is for OS X 10.4.11. Why does this article and the VT list of updates say it is for Server 10.4.10? Wasn't that updated to 10.4.11 due to problems in10.4.10?

Security Update 2006-003 broke the screen display of Google Maps in Safari: the red location-marker and the box surrounding the text are missing as are part of the map navigation controls. This problem does not occur in Firefox or Camino.

I updated our Server and 11 client Macs without issue. All (including IMAP) appears to be working fine.

Installed on Tiger Server (running on MacMini).

Always nervous about these "security updates"; two of them in the past have caused havoc on the IMAP mail server.

Everything A-OK.

Apple Security Update ReviewHosed my Xserve - Version: 2005-003, 3/29/2005 12:46PM PST

This update totally hosed my Xserve. Not only the mail server, it totally locked all remote access: ARD/FTP/SSH/Telnet/Server Admin/Server Monitor.

I had to do a complete reinstall.

Very un-Apple...

Apple Security Update CommentaryDefinitely avoid for now... - Version: 2005-003, 3/23/2005 03:07AM PST

This update has caused lots of problems with the mail component. View Apple's discussion boards for details at:

http://discussions.info.apple.com/webx?128@697.YkYdaMyWTeH.0@.68aa145e

for details.

In brief summary the problem is that aliases of the form john.doe@domain.com (two part address before the @ sign) stop working, the summary of email accounts in Server Admin is no longer displayed, and some users have problems logging on to retrieve mail.

Apparently Apple are aware of the problem and are working on a solution. In the meantime be very wary of installing this update on MacOS X Server. These problems are unique to the server update and do not reflect on the client update.

from MacFixIt, and i can confirm:

Problems with new version of Cyrus in Mac OS X Server MacFixIt reader Ron McElfresh reports that Apple's
revision to the Cyrus mail server component of Mac OS X server
has caused some IMAP/POP difficulties, including:
• Server Admin can no longer read or list email accounts in the Accounts tab
• APOP no longer works (only with "Clear")
• IMAP no longer works (only with "Clear")
• Server Admin "breaks" custom changes to Postix "main.cf" config file.

There are a lot of changes to the Cyrus IMAP server in this update. Any ideas if this also fixes the IMAP log locking bug? http://david.codebase.ca/index.php?p=26
