Product Description:

MindFortress is a multi-media knowledge base app for the Mac OS X platform. Try it out for 7 days (usage based trial, not just 7 days from first run) and we are sure you will find it indispensable.

There are around 29 cards built in that vary from Financial to Notes, Pictures, offline Web Pages, Health and Body, Identification, Internet, and Phone. You can customize those cards and create your own with our template editor. Assign a 16 and 32 pixel icon to your customized cards and share them around the office. And with our Blowfish based 448 bit encryption, your information is safe from prying eyes.

Other features include Categorization of your cards; a favorites bar for quick access; your choice of Icon, List, or Column views; startup password, and a full fledged search. MindFortress is written using Apple's Cocoa frameworks for Mac OS 10.3 Panther.

We have a lot planned for MindFortress' next revisions which have never been seen before in this type of software.

What's new in this version:

  • If global data encryption is enabled, a password is now always required on startup.
  • Moved the encryption preference from the Data pane to the Security pane, both since it makes more sense there, and so it can be made dependent on the startup password pref.
  • When upgrading from MF 1.2 or earlier, if the startup password preference is off but the encryption one is on, the encryption pref is disabled, since that combination is no longer allowed.
  • Reduced the widths of the splitter bars in the main and Template Editor windows.
  • Moved the Edit button in the various windows to the bottom of the window, and added the date created, modified, and the size to the information displayed there.
  • Implemented a system menu that lists recently viewed cards, plus an item to activate MindFortress. This menu is has a MindFortress icon, and is available in all applications. A similar menu is also available as a submenu of the Edit menu. When an item is chosen, MF is activated and that card is displayed.
  • Added preferences to the General pane to enable or disable the new recent cards menu, and to set the maximum number of cards to list.
  • The favorites sidebar and the card area can now both be hidden by double-clicking on the splitter bar, or dragging to the edge. The hidden/shown state, and width when shown, are remembered between quits.
  • Fixed a security hole: the search index is no longer saved in an unencrypted form on disk. Any existing unencrypted index file will be deleted when the data is saved.
  • Recent searches are now preserved between quits. Note that the search terms are only added to the recents menu if you hit Return after entering the word or phrase.
  • Contextual menus are now available for all three view modes. Also, Control-clicking on a card will now select that card and show a contextual menu for that card.
  • Added Update Cards... command to the Edit menu and toolbar when the Template Editor is active. When chosen, displays a confirmation sheet (which can be bypassed if desired), then scans through all existing cards and updates all ones based on that template so the layout is the same. If a value has been entered in a component that was removed, that component is still retained, so the value isn't lost. The updated cards are listed in a new view mode of the main window, and an alert panel says how many were updated.
  • Added a preference to the General pane to re-enable the Update Cards... confirmation sheet.
  • Security fix: AppleScripts now can not access the card data until the password has been entered, if password protection is enabled.
  • If a card is shown both in the main window and a separate window, and one is edited, the other is now automatically redisplayed.
  • If a card is being edited in the main window and editing is turned on in a separate window, or vice versa, the previous edit is disabled -
  • i.e. a specific card can only be edited in one window at a time.
  • When a card is automatically selected (e.g. via the Select Recent Card menu), the current view is scrolled so it is visible, if necessary.
  • Fixed a couple of bugs with the view mode toggle in the toolbar, where it wasn't showing up until the data finished loading on startup, and was remaining selected when in search mode.

MindFortress CommentaryDead as a dead dog - Version: 2.0, 5/28/2009 03:25PM PST

The website says "NOTICE: NOT YET OX 10.5 "LEOPARD" COMPLIANT". After all this time for this app not yet to be 10.5 compatible is a clear indication that you shouldn't trust any data to it! Shame because the functionality looks pretty good.

MindFortress ReviewPoor usability, slow and clumsy - Version: 1.5, 2/8/2005 05:48AM PST

Unlike their excellent PocketPC apps, MindFortress is a dog. I've used it since they released the first beta. It started out very clumsy, non-intuitive and slow. Based on their success with PocketInformant, I thought that MindFortress would improve dramatically over time. Well, it has not. The usability issues remain, and they have not given the app much development attention, as their PocketPC apps sell far better.

Many of the competing apps in this category cost less, and have developers who are willing to invest their time in the product.

MindFortress ReviewStill Think It's Great - Version: 1.5, 2/7/2005 10:41PM PST

I've used this program nearly every day since I bought it, and I really appreciate it. I am the person who previously posted that I received great customer service from this developer and I have the email correspondence to prove it. I get tired of seeing people complain about a developer and then saying that any positive feedback "must have been posted by the developer." What rubbish! How would this developer have become one of the top developers of Pocket PC software without having decent customer service?

In addition to MindFortress, I purchased this developer's Pocket PC application, Pocket Informant, a few years ago, and the developer has done nothing to improve that award-winning software.

I believe that MindForterss is this developers first foray into Mac software and I hope that the negative people that have recently posted here do not discourage the developer from continuing to improve this program. Not all Mac users are like those two!

Thanks WebIS for a good product.
