SafariSorter Usage TipNeed to use PLUTIL under 10.4.x - Version: 3.11, 10/11/2005 05:50PM PST

Many .plist files are now binary encoded, rather than the tradional XML format. SafariSorter doesn't understand the new binary format. You'll need to use the PLUTIL command in the TERMINAL app for change the format of the bookmarks.plist file from binary to XML, and then back again after SafariSorter has done its work.

In TERMINAL, type 'man plutil' for more info.

'plutil -convert xml1 bookmarks.plist', then use SafariSorter, then 'plutil -convert binary1 bookmarks.plist'. Cheers, Al

Someone makes a great little app, you all use it, then when he wants a bit of cash you whine at $10.00 !!! what planet are you all on ? How much did your Mac cost, how much is your time worth ? Buy BookDog and pay the man, it's just one less lousy fancy latte and a doughnut.

SafariSorter CommentaryAnother freebie bites the dust... - Version: 3.11, 5/10/2005 07:05PM PST

Just when you find something you like and find useful, it's no longer free. You get hooked, then they take away the toy. Darn.

I think -- for the scope of this little program -- that $9.95 is a bit too much, Jerry. I think it might fly better if you ask for $5.95... Just my opinion. I would buy it for that. But, at the higher price, I think I will suffer the old way, and do it myself. I will miss it though... :-(

with aloha,

SafariSorter CommentaryThere is no more SafariSorter--it is now Bookdog - Version: 3.11, 5/9/2005 03:17PM PST

MAC_1984
SafariSorter is defunct and Bookdog took it place. It works well with Tiger (at least for me). Yes, it now requires a registration, and is no longer free or donationware as was SafariSorter, but you can get two licenses for the price of one until the end of this month and it only cost me $9.95 for two licenses with the promotion that is going on. I never understand the all the moaning when a piece of software going to a fee basis. If the software is priced corrected then what is the issue?

SafariSorter ReviewNot worth the price - Version: 3.11, 5/5/2005 08:11PM PST

It was the perfect freeware, and worked flawlessly. Now it is $10 for any system after 10.3.8 (renamed to BookDog, or something). The convenience of this tool was noteworthy, but nothing I'd pay for. If you have money to burn, by all means, upgrade.
Personally, I access all my bookmarks from Launchbar now, I don't benefit from this anymore.

SafariSorter CommentaryRead The Description Carefully - Version: 3.11, 4/29/2005 11:25AM PST

Compatible only up to 10.3.8. I upgraded to 10.3.9 and had long since forgotten this limit (worked well with 10.3.8 and earlier). With 10.3.9 it will trash your bookmarks file (twice in my case). But I had them backed up so no be problem. Safari will warn you that there's a problem with html bookmarks file. This occurs with Safari 1.3, an upgrade with 10.3.9 which apparently is the problem.

This is NOT a criticism of the app. I found it very useful through 10.3.8 and would recommend it to anyone, but not 10.3.9 or 10.4. Hopefully author will get this updated soon. BTW author provides good instructions in a PDF file in addition to doing the obvious "Find" to locate the parts. Thanks.
