This is exactly what I've been looking for. I tend to rate stuff on my iPod and then when I return to my computer I need to manually copy the ratings so an automatic update with iTunes doesn't flush them out. Anyway, this is perfect. I was going to (futilely) attempt to write my own program to copy ratings but now I don't need to!
Excellent

I appreciate the reason this is needed completely. In fact I was wondering if you could extend it to do iTunes to iTunes sync'ing as well. iTunes lets you share a music library but not the meta data for that library (ie ratings, playlists, play count, etc.) When I bring my PB home from the office I want the last played date synced with my iMac and iBook at home.
I know I could use my iPod but it's only 15GB and I have 30GB of tunes in my library.
Seems like an extension of your current application!?
Thanks

An example of who would use this... - Version: 1.0.1, 1/20/2004 08:17AM PST

Here's an example of who would want to use this program:
I have a G4 desktop with lots of hard disk space for my 15GB music library and a 40GB iPod. I also have an iBook with a 20GB hard drive that is more than half full without any music on it. When I am at work using my iBook, I would like to plug my iPod into it to listen and rate music using iTunes. Because the iPod can only sync with one Mac at a time, I have to set iPod management to manual when connected to my iBook to avoid overwriting the iPod's contents with what is on my iBook (which is nothing). Only problem is, once you turn on manual management of playlists, the link with the primary music library at home is broken and the next time I plug it back into my G4 desktop, any ratings I did while in manual mode on my iBook get overwritten with what is on my primary iTunes music library. In other words, synchronization is two way ONLY between an iPod and the primary iTunes library. Ratings and playcounts changed from a secondary iTunes computer in manual mode are lost when you resync with the primary iTunes computer.
This program allows you to sync the changes made to an iPod via a secondary iTunes computer with with the primary iTunes library.
Hope this helps...

Wouldn't say it's redundant but... - Version: 1.0, 1/15/2004 03:36PM PST

iTunes does bring play count info, etc. from the iPod to iTunes.

I have a bug which prevents it from doing its thing: comes up with a message about half way through the sync process "where is iTunes Infohound app." which does not exist on any local volumes.
Great project, though, I will follow with interest!

not redundant - Version: 1.0, 1/14/2004 03:30PM PST

I believe that natively it is iTunes > iPod one way only. This appears to go both ways.

Don't iTunes and iPod already do this, natively?
Please note however that it doesn't seem to work to just sync selected playlists. I needed to choose entire iPod and sync that with the corresponding playlists in iTunes to get it to work.
